GIVE IT ALL TO . . . ? . . . .

--A Research Thread--

. . .

.

7 “When you pray, don’t babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. 8 Don’t be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! 9 Pray like this:

Our Father in heaven,
may your name be kept holy.
10 May your Kingdom come soon.
May your will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today the food we need,[a]
12 and forgive us our sins,
as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
13 And don’t let us yield to temptation,[b]
but rescue us from the evil one.[c]

--New Living Translation

7And when you pray, do not heap up phrases (multiply words, repeating the same ones over and over) as the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard for their much speaking. [I Kings 18:25-29.]

8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.

9Pray, therefore, like this:

Our Father Who is in heaven, hallowed (kept holy) be Your name.
10Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
11Give us this day our daily bread.
12And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven ([e]left, remitted, and let go of the debts, and have [f]given up resentment against) our debtors.
13And lead (bring) us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

14For if you forgive people their trespasses [their [g]reckless and willful sins, [h]leaving them, letting them go, and [i]giving up resentment], your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

15But if you do not forgive others their trespasses [their [j]reckless and willful sins, [k]leaving them, letting them go, and [l]giving up resentment], neither will your Father forgive you your trespasses.

--Amplified

Pray with Simplicity

5"And when you come before God, don't turn that into a theatrical production either. All these people making a regular show out of their prayers, hoping for stardom! Do you think God sits in a box seat?

6"Here's what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won't be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace.

7-13"The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They're full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don't fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this:

Our Father in heaven,
Reveal who you are.
Set the world right;
Do what's best— as above, so below.
Keep us alive with three square meals.
Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others.
Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil.
You're in charge!
You can do anything you want!
You're ablaze in beauty!
Yes. Yes. Yes.

14-15"In prayer there is a connection between what God does and what you do. You can't get forgiveness from God, for instance, without also forgiving others. If you refuse to do your part, you cut yourself off from God's part.

16-18"When you practice some appetite-denying discipline to better concentrate on God, don't make a production out of it. It might turn you into a small-time celebrity but it won't make you a saint. If you 'go into training' inwardly, act normal outwardly. Shampoo and comb your hair, brush your teeth, wash your face. God doesn't require attention-getting devices. He won't overlook what you are doing; he'll reward you well.
--THE MESSAGE

Mark Kirby:

O Mother of Good Counsel,
Mother of Perpetual Help,
I turn with confidence to thy maternal Heart,
and I renew my total and irrevocable consecration to thee.

I am all thine, Most Holy Mary,
and all that I have is thine.
I give thee my past with its burdens.
I give thee this present moment with its anxieties and fears.
I give thee my future and all that it holds.

There is no part of my life that is not open to thee,
no place so secret, or so darkened by sin
that thy presence and thy influence
are not wholly and ardently desired there.

I want to be completely transparent with thee,
utterly simple, guileless, and childlike.
Thou knowest, O Mother,
all my preoccupations,
all my intentions,
and all those recommended to my prayer.
Take them, I beseech thee, to thy Immaculate Heart
and, as my Advocate, my all-powerful intercessor, and my Mediatrix,
present them to thy Son.
Seeing them presented by thee
and held in thy maternal Heart,
there is nothing that He will not do
to give to each intention the one response
worthy of the infinite mercy and love of His Sacred Heart.

Praying in this way, I can be at rest,
for thou art my Mother,
and all that I entrust to thee will be,
I am sure,
received, and considered, and cared for
with a Mother's love.
Amen.

You’re right. The college aid is not enough.

Thanks.

It is all in the interpretation of the Scriptures.

God's Word is true. Men can teach the Word of God. When they begin to add things that are not there ... it is blasphemous!

Hearers tend to believe the official understanding of the Scriptures. There are Scriptures that are not easily understood ... thus learned (?) men step forward and tell us what it means.

The fact that it is not the Word of God but rather the words of men is occluded.

God forbid we believe the words of man that are not directly found in the Scriptures. Today we have dozens and dozens of translations of the Holy Bible, many of which are paraphrased forms. Perhaps interesting to read but definitely not study Bibles for a serious student of the truth. _________________________________________________________ Matthew 24:5 Young's Literal Translation "for many shall come in my name, saying, I am the Christ, and they shall lead many astray," _________________________________________________________ Galatians 1:6-9 (King James Version) "

6. I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:

7. Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.

8. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

9.As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed." ________________________________________________________ Satan is a master deceiver, knowing where our weakness lies. He is a liar from the beginning. Sowing doubt and leading astray. _________________________________________________________ Revelation 12:10-12 (King James Version)

10. And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

11. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

12. Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhibitors of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. __________________________________________________________ "Romans 3:10-12 (King James Version) __________________________________________________________ 10. As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11. There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

12. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one". _______________________________________________________ Many Scriptures emphasis that Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior is the way ... the only way to God Let us believe God ... and every man a liar.

Sorry about the bad formatting.

WOW! this is quite an interesting thread you started here.

Very important. Our very future depends on the WORD of God ... not our interpretation of His Word; but the actual truth.

It is very difficult for anyone to change a deeply held foundational belief. The Holy Spirit will not lead astray. Prayerfully ask for truth and sincerely mean it

God knows the heart (that is deceitful to the very end).
_______________________________________________________

Jeremiah 17:9-11 (King James Version)

9. The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

10. I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

11. As the partridge sitteth on eggs, and hatcheth them not; so he that getteth riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool.

Father God help us in our day, in Jesus name, amen.

AMEN! AMEN! AMEN!

Against my better judgment once, I met an alcoholic at the Baptist counseling center at 02:30 in the morning . . . and, sure enough they were almost falling down drunk.

I was angry.

I commanded in the name of Jesus that they sober up immediately.

They did. Shocked us both.

WONDERFUL. I WHOLESALE AGREE.

Pastor related a Sunday or so ago . . . how we sometimes end up in the wrong restroom in public.

How Holy Spirit noted to her one day—to tell the people . . . avoiding sin is like

DON’T GO IN THE WRONG DOOR.

Holy Spirit can make that clear if it’s fuzzed out for some reason—for those focusing on JESUS.

One good thing is if you have more than one in college the college aid increase ..(not enough)

Not enough is right,I even had my wife back to college.Ithaca College gave me a sibling grant of 1000.00 each for my kids off of $45,000 and gave my younger daughter much less when my older daughter graduated.

It's safe to say there will be no donations coming to them from my family

Be careful in what you say. You may not "recall", so let me help you:

The Apostle Thomas, the doubter, when Jesus told him to put his fingers in the nail holes and his hand in the wound on his side, replied, "My Lord and my God". So here is an occassion when the singular "God" is referenced to Jesus Himself.

That help you a little? I agree that there is nothing in the scriptures that would give authority to pray to anyone other than God. Yes, both Jesus and the holy spirit were sent to do the will of the Father. One can't get away from that!

I gave some thought to what I think is the point that you were trying to make re Peter, a key, the Gentiles and preaching.

I re-read some of Edersheim's great work, the Life and times of Jesus the Messiah and he agrees with you to a point that I am willing to agree with as well.

The gist of it all is, though, that Christ was going away, and He was leaving the work of the church that He had established, to the apostles and to the disciples. Later in Matthew 18, he addresses all of them with the same concerns.

Peter did preach to the centurion and he did have the vision about the animals that opened up the church to the Gentiles.

Still, He gave all of them the keys to the kingdom, and as we know, the kingdom is spiritual and the kingdom is within, and so these have to be spiritual keys. Making disciples and guiding those disciples in a Christian life, and in establishing church procedures were all included in the stewardship. Peter was one pillar, there are 12 others.

Edersheim also says that "loosing" and "binding" refers to things that are prohibited and permitted. In Rabbinic law the terms could refer to pardoning and forgiving but this is not the case with Christ, and forgiveness of sins is not to be considered the meaning

One of the mercies of the great Jehovah (or Yahweh, if you will) is that His message was made easily understood by even of us that are not intellectuals or highly schooled.

It is not that no effort is required but rather the condition of the soil that the seed lands upon determines whether the Biblical truths takes root.

Many of the doctrines that have been devised by men tend to choke out the seed, too.

Read an explanation of what the transubstantiation is, for example,
and you’ll see an idea utterly impervious to Biblical explanation. An idea of men that they attempt to find in the Bible like seeing the face of Elvis in the clouds.

And some translators have contributed to confusion by producing translations or paraphrases that reflect what they think the Scripture should say rather than what the original languages would justify.

ES: "We ARE the saints!"

You: We are called to be Saints. When is your canonization ceremony?

I see you aren't all that knowledgeable about the Letters of the NT, right? In Romans 1:7 Paul says we are "called saints (agiois)" - not TO BE called saints. That is a translators addition to the text: those two little terms do not appear in any of the manuscripts of the NT. Look at both letters to the Corinthians, verses 1 or 2; Eph. 1:1; Phil. 1:1, and many other places. All Christians were called "saints"!

Just to clarify your understanding a little :-)

The reformation was based on the 5 solas ..all the churches that came directly out of the reformation were churches that were "calvinist"

There was a doctrinal split with some wanted to return to the more catholic view of free will . So yes Wag , the reformed get to say who is reformed just as the catholics get to say who is catholic.

AMEN! Jacob Arminius was a solid reformer who traveled to Rome and returned to write against the Reformation and God's sovereignty in all things.

We under-estimate the strength and determination and continuing efforts of the Counter Reformation if we assume Rome was just going to quietly accept the fact that its death grip was being derailed by the preaching of the truth.

The same mind of Machiavelli was behind the Counter Reformation. The Jesuits were created with the singular task of destroying the Reformation. One method was to infiltrate and subvert; keep the bottle, change the wine. Look like a Reformer. Sound like a Reformer. But when push comes to shove, deny the core, Scriptural values of the Reformation, and thus splinter the opposition and return the church to Rome.

NO!Mr Knowledgeable! When I see people walking around calling themselves Saints it shows lack of humility-If someone else wants to call you a Saint so be it

Saints ALWAYS show humility-They don't run around saying "look at me I'm a Saint!"

I wish you a Blessed day!

Perhaps you can explain the lack of humility of someone like Saint Benedicta(Edith Stien) who was gassed by the Nazi’s as you sit at your computer in a safe place wasting time thinking of spaceships and posting big colored words multiple times on FR

Shameful!
