Great prayer (except for the "Jesus exalting His mother" because He didn't. Jesus did just the opposite.)

Now if Rome would only stop there and desist in giving Mary all those idolatrous titles it would be on the road to becoming a Christian faith.

Do you believe Mary is the "Tower of David" and the "Morning Star," as the posted prayer to Mary tells us?

My understanding of the Gospels: They are fundamental Truth — direct testimony from persons who were intimately associated with Jesus personally, in His walk as a human being in this world.

those are the gospels..I asked if you what THE gospel is...

What is the good news that Jesus taught?

Mark 1:14-15: "Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying, 'The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel'"

Jhn 3:15 — That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

Jhn 3:16 — For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Jhn 3:17 — For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
Jhn 3:18 — He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Jhn 6:40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

1Cr 15:1 — Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
1Cr 15:2 — By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
1Cr 15:3 — For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
1Cr 15:4 — And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

The Good news is Christ died for our sins, Repent and believe

(Paul was not a direct witness of anything, except his own de-horsing on the Road to Damascus, with all subsequent complications....)

Are you saying He was not an apostle? Are you saying his letters are not inspired scripture?

Funny how some defend the visions of Mary or saints that have no infallible support..but doubt Pauls vision of Christ that is verified by his words being in scripture and the other apostles.. . .

Yep very strange standards some folks have

But I've read in Augustine, Justin, Irenaeus, Thomas Aquinas, Dante (!!!! ding ding ding) and I worked with the "compare and contrast "between" superstitious and life-denying Catholic practices here and there, and the wonderful beauty I saw in a very few Catholic people and a great many Catholic books.

Have you ever tried reading the bible? :)

Ah, yes, the wonderful Word of God! Thank you for the verses. It should be, and IS, the authority - for all who recognize it through the leading of the Holy Spirit of God - that does not leave us to our own devices where questions of our faith are concerned.

Pope Eugene IV, (1388-1447 CE) wrote a Papal bull in 1441 CE titled Cantate Domino. One paragraph reads: “It [the Church] firmly believes, professes, and proclaims that those not living within the Catholic Church, not only pagans, but also Jews and heretics and schismatics cannot become participants in eternal life, but will depart ‘into everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels’ [Matt. 25:41], unless before the end of life the same have been added to the flock; and that the unity of the ecclesiastical body is so strong that only to those remaining in it are the sacraments of the Church of benefit for salvation, and do fastings, almsgiving, and other functions of piety and exercises of Christian service produce eternal reward, and that no one, whatever almsgiving he has practiced, even if he has shed blood for the name of Christ, can be saved, unless he has remained in the bosom and unity of the Catholic Church.” 4

You know the church "that never changes?" Now they believe Muslims and jews and EVEN Protestants can be saved..

"Well I have been known to visit a candle grotto, and to light a votive candle testifying to my desire of lifting a prayer on behalf of a fellow suffering human being..."

Yes, I know.

"I am really sick and tired of trying to "build a bridge" between Pentecostals and Catholics."

Except that you built one between you and I and you didn't seem sick or tired when you did it; only sharing my pain and hurt. :-)

"In the end, God still probably sees each as members of the One Faithful Body of Christ. Even if so many of His children do not."

While I would not go through Mary to approach the throne of grace, what I saw was a heart moved by the Holy Spirit to go through considerable effort to pray for a hurting brother's child and my prayer is that Christ sees the same.

Oh, YEAH! I got the Javascript Bible, the Carbine Bible, and others! Read 'em all the time!

Then I got one that just says, the Holy Bible. Go figger.

Wait, now that I think of it, I DID see the movie. It was Italian, right?

Seriously though, even the Ethiopian eunuch asked for help in understanding the Bible, and I don't think Philip said, "If thou hadst wit even as a plowboy, thou wouldst understand without no pesky apostolic help."Instead he got up in the chariot and acted like an Apostle.

They believed that before 1400.

Some people act like an entity which has been around for about 2k years is going to be completely transparent and accessible to superficial study. It would be nice to see some real scholarship among our accusers, or just some sort of common or garden variety prudence.

No I am not saying that at all. What I was saying: Paul was not a direct contemporary of Jesus. That's what I meant by Paul's not being a "direct witness," i.e., in the way the Twelve Apostles were. He certainly was quite implacably and vigorously opposed to Christ and His followers, until his miraculous conversion on the Road to Damascus.

Paul's way of thinking and speaking are certainly different than the way Christ's beloved Apostle John thinks and speaks. Yet both testimonies are necessary: It's not a question of one being "better" than the other.

Both are divinely inspired testimonies to the One Truth — though not exactly in the same way, they are both on the same model (so to speak)....

Or so it seems to me, FWIW.

What? Truth changes? Who knew?

Either the older popes were right, which means Vatican II is wrong.

Or Vatican II was right and everything the Catholic church taught as decreed by the popes for well nigh a thousand years was wrong.

And if the Catholic church is the true church, how can it be wrong?

And if it’s wrong in some areas, how do you determine which ones they are?

So, in which period of history was the Catholic Church wrong?

Rome, we have a problem.....

INDEED:

= = =

My “taste in language” matters as much as my taste in luncheon meats.

What matters is the word of God, and titles given to Mary such as “Tower of David” and “Morning Star” are blasphemous.

Who is the Morning Star in Scripture?

“I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.” — Revelation 22:16
So I ask you — do Roman Catholics actually understand what they’re saying?
