7 When you pray, dont babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. 8 Dont be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! 9 Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, --New Living Translation 7And when you pray, do not heap up phrases (multiply words, repeating the same ones over and over) as the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard for their much speaking. [I Kings 18:25-29.] 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him. 9Pray, therefore, like this: 15But if you do not forgive others their trespasses [their [j]reckless and willful sins, [k]leaving them, letting them go, and [l]giving up resentment], neither will your Father forgive you your trespasses. --Amplified Pray with Simplicity 5"And when you come before God, don't turn that into a theatrical production either. All these people making a regular show out of their prayers, hoping for stardom! Do you think God sits in a box seat? 6"Here's what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won't be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace. 7-13"The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They're full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don't fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this: 16-18"When you practice some appetite-denying discipline to better concentrate on God, don't make a production out of it. It might turn you into a small-time celebrity but it won't make you a saint. If you 'go into training' inwardly, act normal outwardly. Shampoo and comb your hair, brush your teeth, wash your face. God doesn't require attention-getting devices. He won't overlook what you are doing; he'll reward you well. |

Once again you call my honesty and candor into question.
The funny thing is the bile that is wretched out by some folks in regards to the Theotokos.
Why would somebody go and show such grievous disgust about somebody’s mother? Especially if these people wanted to be in good standing with the mother’s son? (Lower case used because that is something that is, to my knowledge, almost universally true...even if the mother was abusive)
Makes no sense. If one shows disrespect toward a man’s mother, one shows disrespect toward the man.
Heb 2:14 Therefore because the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself in like manner has been partaker of the same: that, through death, he might destroy him who had the empire of death, that is to say, the devil: 15 And might deliver them, who through the fear of death were all their lifetime subject to servitude. 16 For nowhere does he take hold of the angels: but of the seed of Abraham he takes hold.
Do you think that God CAN lie?
I do not think lying is an ability. It is not something about which the word "can" is appropriately used.
I think God can always speak the truth and since "... omnia quaecumque voluit fecit," He need never lie. He never wants to.
I need to leave this long one for later . . . maybe in a day or so . . .
However, you said:
She is dispenser of all graces because in giving birth she, so to speak, ‘dispensed’ Jesus, who is the sum of all Graces. This title is just a meditation on her being the mother of Jesus.
NOT so fast, Bro.
That is NOT the sense of the wording in Ferraro.
That is NOT the sense one gets from listening to Roman Catholics et al hereon and in our daily lives.
that is NOT the sense that one gets from a LOT of Roman Catholic et al writing.
If English words mean anything dependable at all, they do NOT mean what your assertion insists they mean.
It is CLEAR from a HOST of diverse sources that MANY Roman Catholics et al
construe it that MARY HERSELF IS ACTIVELY NOW, FROM HER HEAVENLY THRONE—CONSTRUED TO BE AT CHRIST’S RIGHT HAND—DISPENSING GRACES TO ALL MANKIND AS A FLOWER GIRL DISPENSES POSIES AT A WEDDING.
THANKS. MUCH APPRECIATED.
ENOUGH of this farcical clap trap about pseudo differences between veneration, doration & worship already yet!So if we venerate a great actor, author, soldier or statesman, that is idolatry Quix?
It also contradicts my experience. I have NEVER EVER been told that I would go to hell for being a Protestant and I spent a lot of my clerical career working with Catholics on a number of matters.
= = =
In my experience, rarely do such accusations fly at THOSE LEVELS.
WELL SAID.
THX.
Paul, a bondservant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect and the acknowledgment of the truth which accords with godliness, in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began (Titus 1:1-2).
INDEED.
WELL PUT and accurate from my experiences and observations as well.
There is in practice no difference in the way Catholics treat Mary, in prayer or practice than they do Christ. We offer the Body and Blood of Mary on the Altar as our Ultimate Worship?
You know better, if you really were raised Catholic.
Proddies think PRAYER is WORSHIP. That we can PRAY to God and Worship Him also confuses them. That we can ask each other for their prayers and pray for them without WORSHIPING them also confuses them.
INDEED.
The image they so studiously work at is part of that double speak. They are stereotypically hard working, decent people, family oriented that you never see acting like idiots drinking and carrying on. The perfect neighbors. What's not to like?
Oh yeah, the obedience to a centralized hierarchy that determines how their holy books are to be interpreted. The belief that God evolved from man, that satan is the step brother of Jesus and that if we are really obedient to what the church tells us we get to become gods someday with planets to rule.
LOL.
I faintly recall that discussion.
I do think it’s greater than 5%, BTW.
I’m usually not very possessive about my threads.
I try to be some sort of nurse it along overseer and coach . . .
I am blessed when lots of perspectives are vigorously presented and discussed—PARTICULARLY BIBLICALLY GROUNDED ONES.
THANKS MUCH
I hope SOME do, at least!
AGREED.
I was also brought up in a heavily Catholic area.
This isn’t a matter of only one or two Catholic churches in town, like might be in the south, but a Catholic Church about every mile and a half from each other, all with sizable congregations, across the whole city and suburbs. Lots of Irish, Italians, and Pollacks, which should tell you something about the mindset.
Come Christmas and Easter, it was standing room only if you weren’t early.
These were not odd isolated people who thought like this. It was the VAST majority of a large population.
GOOD POINTS, WELL SAID, imho.
THX.
Will try to catch up in the thread tomorrow, but for now, praying for us all. We see through a glass, so darkly.
We do not deserve that Sacrifice, and should be humbled, grieving, for nome of us are deserving. Perhaps we need to. ponder the seven deadly sins?
I see in you, dear Quix, a fellow seeker. It is a hard path we traverse, and one that most do not have the time/heart to traverse.
Have you read “The Pilgrim’s Progress”? I struggle some days to get out of the “Slough of Despond”, but must go back and read it again to make sure that is exactly where I’ve gotten stuck. I could be making a categorical error between the way I see the modern world, and the natural world He has given us. (Like, time to turn off the TV?)
Hey, the rest of you, please disregard this. Most do not question contemporary reality the way a few of us seem born to do.
It would be profitable to read it again, it was so long ago.
Thanks for your heart-felt wisdom.
Blessings,
