GIVE IT ALL TO . . . ? . . . .

--A Research Thread--

. . .

.

7 “When you pray, don’t babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. 8 Don’t be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! 9 Pray like this:

Our Father in heaven,
may your name be kept holy.
10 May your Kingdom come soon.
May your will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today the food we need,[a]
12 and forgive us our sins,
as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
13 And don’t let us yield to temptation,[b]
but rescue us from the evil one.[c]

--New Living Translation

7And when you pray, do not heap up phrases (multiply words, repeating the same ones over and over) as the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard for their much speaking. [I Kings 18:25-29.]

8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.

9Pray, therefore, like this:

Our Father Who is in heaven, hallowed (kept holy) be Your name.
10Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
11Give us this day our daily bread.
12And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven ([e]left, remitted, and let go of the debts, and have [f]given up resentment against) our debtors.
13And lead (bring) us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

14For if you forgive people their trespasses [their [g]reckless and willful sins, [h]leaving them, letting them go, and [i]giving up resentment], your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

15But if you do not forgive others their trespasses [their [j]reckless and willful sins, [k]leaving them, letting them go, and [l]giving up resentment], neither will your Father forgive you your trespasses.

--Amplified

Pray with Simplicity

5"And when you come before God, don't turn that into a theatrical production either. All these people making a regular show out of their prayers, hoping for stardom! Do you think God sits in a box seat?

6"Here's what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won't be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace.

7-13"The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They're full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don't fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this:

Our Father in heaven,
Reveal who you are.
Set the world right;
Do what's best— as above, so below.
Keep us alive with three square meals.
Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others.
Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil.
You're in charge!
You can do anything you want!
You're ablaze in beauty!
Yes. Yes. Yes.

14-15"In prayer there is a connection between what God does and what you do. You can't get forgiveness from God, for instance, without also forgiving others. If you refuse to do your part, you cut yourself off from God's part.

16-18"When you practice some appetite-denying discipline to better concentrate on God, don't make a production out of it. It might turn you into a small-time celebrity but it won't make you a saint. If you 'go into training' inwardly, act normal outwardly. Shampoo and comb your hair, brush your teeth, wash your face. God doesn't require attention-getting devices. He won't overlook what you are doing; he'll reward you well.
--THE MESSAGE

Mark Kirby:

O Mother of Good Counsel,
Mother of Perpetual Help,
I turn with confidence to thy maternal Heart,
and I renew my total and irrevocable consecration to thee.

I am all thine, Most Holy Mary,
and all that I have is thine.
I give thee my past with its burdens.
I give thee this present moment with its anxieties and fears.
I give thee my future and all that it holds.

There is no part of my life that is not open to thee,
no place so secret, or so darkened by sin
that thy presence and thy influence
are not wholly and ardently desired there.

I want to be completely transparent with thee,
utterly simple, guileless, and childlike.
Thou knowest, O Mother,
all my preoccupations,
all my intentions,
and all those recommended to my prayer.
Take them, I beseech thee, to thy Immaculate Heart
and, as my Advocate, my all-powerful intercessor, and my Mediatrix,
present them to thy Son.
Seeing them presented by thee
and held in thy maternal Heart,
there is nothing that He will not do
to give to each intention the one response
worthy of the infinite mercy and love of His Sacred Heart.

Praying in this way, I can be at rest,
for thou art my Mother,
and all that I entrust to thee will be,
I am sure,
received, and considered, and cared for
with a Mother's love.
Amen.

THX BOTH OF YOU.

That one is probably the main one for this thread.

It will do. I don’t think I have a better one on FR yet.

It only has a small sample of some of the worst ones up to page 50 or so out of approx a 240 page book.

The Douay Rheims has it the way it was intended.

Jeremiah 17:9 Pravum est cor omnium et inscrutabile quis cognoscet illud.

Sorry yours got it wrong.

Are you then refuting Quix’s long list of all the things that rosary book says that Mary is?

FAIR ENOUGH FOR SURE.

I just wanted to articulate that I didn’t think this assertion of yours:

What reaches the edges of my comprehension is the people who CLAIM to know Catholicism but whose attempts to articulate what the Church teaches are just flat wrong, while they continue to insist they are right.

Fits ALL the folks who claim to know Roman Catholocism etc.

We’re not talking about Rome, we’re talking about the religion forum.

And yes, the Reformed have dug themselves a hole. I’ve watched the numbers of threads and posts which do not address Reformed thought... but they do address issues re: the Pope, the Catholic Church, The Catholic Bishops, Catholic doctrine, Catholic politics, and Catholic laity. Catholicism does indeed seem to determine Reformed posting direction.

>> If that’s what you mean, I know exactly what you are talking about. It’s exactly like when liberals say things like, “conservatives want the poor to eat dog food,” or “the ‘religious right’ wants to kill all homosexuals,” or “Republicans just start wars for the rich.”<<

That is exactly it.

Judith you may not believe something that the church teaches as true.. in that case then you are exempt from the “they” but many of the reformed posters here were Catholic and they know what the church taught..they can bring the proof of it to the discussion.. so when Catholics deny what is in black and white as true.. there is an issue.. either they do not know their own doctrine or history or they choose not to believe it is true.

For instance I believe that you do not think all the prayers Catholics say go Mary are worship.. but what we see is worship changing the name does not change it..

INDEED. WELL PUT.

THX.

So you've gone from saying I don't post from the Gospels to now admitting 25% of my posts reference the Gospels!

I don't recall singling you out.

And I post commentaries from fellow saints because I've learned a lot from them since they are all solidly based on Scripture.

I have no doubt you've learned a great deal from the commentaries you quote.

But some churches have strayed so far from the word of God as to become "synagogues of Satan" in their manifold idolatry and worship of the creature over the worship of the Triune God alone.

Yep, the worship of 16th century falsehoods will do that.

Mary knew it, too. Sinner that she was, she was saved exactly the same way you and I have been saved -- by God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

Nobody has ever suggested otherwise.

If the Reformation was actually based upon a cohesive set of doctrines there would be ONE Protestant Church.

Why?

The Christian churches of the Apostolic era were not a centralized hierarchy and Christianity spread like wildfire. I think there is a good argument that the more centralized Christianity has become the more it's declined. The fastest growing Christian churches in our southern hemisphere are Pentecostal and Baptist. They are both decentralized in structure.

I don’t recall

EVER

seeing a Roman Catholic et al hereon

deal remotely reasonably with that very important issue.

I think one of the reasons God created time for our experience . . . was to test how we would INVEST IT toward HIM and His priorities.

Since I don’t think that Rnmomof7 and I have ever known each other and it’s unlikely that we grew up in the same area, it sure is interesting that we get the same beliefs about what the Catholic Church teaches *wrong*.

If two unrelated people are going to misinterpret what they’ve heard, you’d expect them to have different things they misinterpreted, instead of the same ones in the same way.

The Christian churches of the Apostolic era were not a centralized hierarchy and Christianity spread like wildfire.

You're right and then there were a series of Church councils which addressed the various heresies.

The fastest growing Christian churches in our southern hemisphere are Pentecostal and Baptist.

Mormonism is growing at an incredible rate, rate of growth does not necessarily equal truth.

With six of nine U.S. Supreme Court justices being Roman Catholic and with Ratzinger issuing his "global authority" encyclical to all the world, it's important to identify the lies Rome teaches and how to combat them by the word of God.

This is a political/religion forum, after all. And as we've learned from these many many threads, Rome is all politics, all the time.

Bad politics.

As a Christian I believe we never know when God will open minds and hearts to the gospel ..so presenting the gospel and pointing out error may well be productive but at least it is obedience to the command to present the gospel .

When someone can present the proof that a certain thing is believed then it is hard to call them liars..you may not like what they say, you may disagree with what they say but that does not mean it is not true.

I have to agree with metmon when she said that Catholics will say “we do not believe this or that.”.but never say where they disagree.

When Quix posts a list of Marys titles and there is silence we must assume that they are Marys titles

W:...we worship God by the way we live, NOT by what we say.

I'm sorry to hear that.

Matt. 5:32 Therefore whoever confesses Me before men him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. (33)But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.
