7 When you pray, dont babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. 8 Dont be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! 9 Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, --New Living Translation 7And when you pray, do not heap up phrases (multiply words, repeating the same ones over and over) as the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard for their much speaking. [I Kings 18:25-29.] 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him. 9Pray, therefore, like this: 15But if you do not forgive others their trespasses [their [j]reckless and willful sins, [k]leaving them, letting them go, and [l]giving up resentment], neither will your Father forgive you your trespasses. --Amplified Pray with Simplicity 5"And when you come before God, don't turn that into a theatrical production either. All these people making a regular show out of their prayers, hoping for stardom! Do you think God sits in a box seat? 6"Here's what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won't be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace. 7-13"The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They're full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don't fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this: 16-18"When you practice some appetite-denying discipline to better concentrate on God, don't make a production out of it. It might turn you into a small-time celebrity but it won't make you a saint. If you 'go into training' inwardly, act normal outwardly. Shampoo and comb your hair, brush your teeth, wash your face. God doesn't require attention-getting devices. He won't overlook what you are doing; he'll reward you well. |

Sigh
Thin-skinned posters on open RF threads are the disruptors. They often take statements against their deeply held beliefs very personally. And whereas I can and do intervene to prevent posters from making it personal there is nothing I can do to keep a poster from taking it personally. And some posters are drawn like a moth to the flame.
If you “take it personally” then you should complete IGNORE “open” RF threads and instead read and post to RF “caucus” “ecumenical” “devotional” or “prayer” threads.

It would appear that some folks rubber dictionaries do not have the above words in them. They sure demonstrate little if any understanding of those sentences.
Thank you, yet again, for your tireless efforts to keep folks in line. I would not care all that much for a Free Republic that did not also include a Religion Forum. I agree that those who come here and post should be able to defend their beliefs without also having to endure personal attacks.
I put on my “shield of faith” whenever I come here and it, along with the “sword of the Spirit - which is the Word of God”, serves me quite well in being able to deflect the fiery darts. I suggest it wholeheartedly to all who venture on.
Not an issue, to me.
Well, count me in as one Protestant who does not quote from the “He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named” site because I don’t even know which one that is being referred to.
There is a lot of information on the web found by doing a brief google search. If two different people on two different threads happen upon it, then it’s just co-incidence.
>>Papist bigots<<
I follow the Pope. Am I a bigot?
Not at all.
God would likely have raised up a rock as a virgin of the lineage of David . . . maybe called her Martha . . .
and then the Vatican Edifice would have spent 1600 years worshipping Martha.
Me too. Maybe I’m a bigot.
>>maybe your faith is not important enough to you to defend <<
I don’t bother to case pearls before swine.
>>Thats true, just look at the religion forum and note who the primary proselytizer of their faith is..hint hint ..it is not the protestants<<
If my husband wears a blue tie, I may not like it but
1. He didn’t wear it to offend me
2. I don’t need to beat him over the head because of my dislike of it.
Which part do have a problem with, maybe we can help you out.
Is it:
A. That you don't believe Jesus Christ is God?
or
B. That you don't believe that He was born to the Blessed Virgin Mary?
Okay, I ROFL’ed. ;-D
Excellent wisdom
I think of the Religion Forum as more like . . .
a cross between
—C.S. Lewis’ & Tolkien’s Inklings group,
—a barroom intellectual brawl amongst intense personalities, and an
—intense group process group.
Well, not much in that long list got denied.
It’s a Catch 22 for them.
If they admit to it, then it proves our point.
If they deny it, then they are at odds with the Church which has condoned it.
I’ve seen similar stuff from some Roman Catholic parishes.
And certainly a mass of it on FR.
>>.. but what we see is worship changing the name does not change it..<<
What you see has nothing to do with the person’s intent.
That’s why the police question many people at an accident scene. Perspective means a lot.
It doesn’t matter what anyone sees, rather what that person’s intent is. Once cannot know that without knowing that person’s heart.
BEARING FALSE WITNESS YET AGAIN.
Prottys hereon . . . SOME of them . . . MAY hate SOME of the Roman Catholic et al dogmas, doctrines, customs, rituals, pratices, perspectives etc.
I can’t think of any of us who HATE ROMAN CATHOLICS . . .
and most of us don’t even hate the institution.
ASK GOD.
I do not think most Catholics can see the depth of their devotion to Mary is as strong or stronger than it is to Christ. They just take all the prayers and devotions and novenas and the rosaries and the traditions (like the ave maria and the bride dedicating herself to Mary) , and the May crowning as part of their faith..they do not consider the energy and time they devote to her as opposed to the time and energy they give Christ..
As a Catholic I denied I worshiped Mary, it is only retrospectively I can see that there was no difference in the time or devotion between her and God
I think it starts with the TJTM at the top of papers in Catholic schools (to Jesus THROUGH Mary)..then there is the rosary you get with your 1st communion kit ..and the honor of crowing mary in your first communion outfit ...it is just ingrafted into Catholic kids so it seems right.. and the church names it veneration ... so to you thats what it is, even though the time spent on her steals time from Christ
= = =
As an outsider looking in, THAT’S PRECISELY what I’ve observed.
Thx. I think many Roman Catholics et al could profit from prayerfully pondering your words above.
Like the First Communion party where the unruly drunken relative is locked in the garage until he sobers up some?
You can have a good time without drinking, but you'd never know that based on all the Catholic weddings, communions, confirmations, and baptisms I've attended.
[smacking fingers and resisting a smart-allecky response.]
