And it doesn't take rocket science to figure out why, just an ability to think for yourself.
It has to do with the fact that Christ died once for all and is done dying - the cross is empty, so there's no reason to keep Him nailed there.
FWIW, if the Catholic Church wanted to portray the crucified Christ accurately, they'd need to make a few changes. The image they put up doesn't coincide with Scripture.

No, Judith, Christ on the cross is the victory which has saved you and me.
But Christ's sacrifice is finished. He has risen. The good news of the Gospel is that Jesus Christ has appeared and acquitted His flock of their sins and saved them from eternal damnation. Praise God for His mercy.
Rome seems stuck on the bloody sacrifice and so it seeks to re-sacrifice Christ anew with every mass. And that is in direct contradiction to Hebrews.
Christ has risen. He's not on the cross anymore. He sits in heaven making footstools of His enemies.
This victory means something. Rome doesn't understand that. Rome tells its members to worry and fret about whether or not Christ's victory will ever apply to them when, if they would only read the Bible, RCs would know that Christ's victory most certainly applies to everyone who believes in Him as Lord, King and Savior.
