Nifonging the Catholic Church

I seriously wonder about some FReepers, sometimes. Any other person accused of a crime would be defended by every FReeper as being innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. I've seen whole threads written by men who have been accused of child abuse by ex-wives out to deny them their visitation rights or to wrest more money out of them. These men are rightly indignant, and furious about the unjust accusations that cannot be proven but are never withdrawn.

Yet where are those FReepers when a PRIEST is accused? Where is the presumption of innocence? Suddenly, every accusation becomes a verdict, and not only the accused but his entire organization and all its adherents are held responsible.

I can only wonder what some of these so-called conservatives (who so faithfully defend the Constitution) would do, if THEY were the ones accused! It is a nightmare for any man -- all of you know how even the accusation stains the man forever, even if it is proven false!

Not only that, many here assert that the problems of 30, 40 and even 50 years ago must be tried in the media TODAY!

Remember the Duke rape case? There are more similarities than differences here. The priests are accused, nifonged, and instead of being defended, they are vilified!

What other man of you could stand under the weight of such an accusation trumpeted by the press, and come out whole? None! And such accusations made, LONG after the statute of limitations has passed, sometimes even after the accused is dead and buried for YEARS -- are YOU one of those who automatically, reflexively, spitefully, and gleefully act as judge, jury, and executioner?

Women! What if it were YOUR HUSBAND, YOUR BROTHER, YOUR FATHER, YOUR UNCLE, YOUR SON who was accused? Wouldn't you want the best defense possible? Wouldn't YOU believe in their innocence? Wouldn't YOU help protect your loved ones as much as possible? And yet, YOU JUDGE THE CHURCH FOR DOING WHAT YOU WOULD DO?

Shame! Vast shame! On all who have sinned against the innocent!

I don’t recall seeing any Protty hereon as seeing Christ on The Cross as a weakness or a defeat.

I do. Dr. Eckleburg routinely criticizes Catholics for using the crucifix, opposed to an empty cross.

No, Judith, Christ on the cross is the victory which has saved you and me.

But Christ's sacrifice is finished. He has risen. The good news of the Gospel is that Jesus Christ has appeared and acquitted His flock of their sins and saved them from eternal damnation. Praise God for His mercy.

Rome seems stuck on the bloody sacrifice and so it seeks to re-sacrifice Christ anew with every mass. And that is in direct contradiction to Hebrews.

Christ has risen. He's not on the cross anymore. He sits in heaven making footstools of His enemies.

This victory means something. Rome doesn't understand that. Rome tells its members to worry and fret about whether or not Christ's victory will ever apply to them when, if they would only read the Bible, RCs would know that Christ's victory most certainly applies to everyone who believes in Him as Lord, King and Savior.

"Be not afraid; only believe." -- Mark 5:36

The part I found confusing was your use of the word “confession.”

Isn’t it curious that from 110 AD until the advent of Martin Luther, God used the Catholic Church to spread the Gospel of God’s Grace, yet somehow the current Cathoic Church is no longer such a vehicle alongside the Protestant movement ... especially puzzling given the ‘colorful’ History of the Catholic Church over that same period.

So the question really would be why certain books are in the New Testament. As early as the first part of the 2nd century our Christian ancestors had resolved this without any dominant church in power. All the books were written during the Apostolic Era and were "peer reviewed" for accuracy during that period when witnesses to the actual events were still living. All the books were written by Apostles, or those that traveled with Apostles. Also, Apostles acknowledged the inspired writings of other Apostles as Scripture.

Amen. Great summary.

What I find strange is how some RCs diminish and even ignore the Old Testament, when Christ referenced the Old Testament continually. When Christ talked about "the Scriptures," He wasn't talking about the Gospels. He was talking about the Hebrew text.

Don't RCs realize this?

where is scripture to support that?

And then God used Martin Luther to correct some wrongs

Truly said, dear brother in Christ. Thank you for sharing your insights!

I perceive every thing unfolding precisely according to God's will - including all of Scripture, language, geopolitics and translations whether good or bad.

Remember the former things of old: for I [am] God, and [there is] none else; [I am] God, and [there is] none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times [the things] that are not [yet] done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: - Isaiah 46:9-10

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to [his] purpose. - Romans 8:28

As a great thinker once said:

"Coincidence is God's way of remaining anonymous." - Einstein

God's Name is I AM.

Yet let me just point out, as objectively as possible, that it’s rather ingenuous for one to post a thread, make it about one’s personal beliefs and then get offended when people comment on those beliefs.

In other words, "it's rather free from reserve, restraint or dissimulation, candid, sincere, artless, innocent and naive for one to post a thread," etc.

As I said, either way... If that's the word you want, then that's the word you want.

IIRC, Jesus also referred to material which is not included, like the book(s) of Enoch. ... Wonder why?

I find the protestant movement neither curious nor puzzling.

I find it merely pathetic.

It is so disconnected from reality, and so apparently unaware of its disconnect, that I can only pray for its members to come to repentance and conversion. Other than that, I expect no good to come of it. It has nothing to say to me.

I think they might have less of an emphasis on the Scriptures than other churches because they place such an emphasis on tradition and the authority of their clergy.

Christ died once for all and is done dying - the cross is empty, so there's no reason to keep Him nailed there.

AMEN! He has risen. The victory has been won. The offering of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world for the sins of His sheep has been accepted by God and marked "paid-in-full."

"But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.

For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,

This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;

And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin." -- Hebrews 10:12-18

I would that every Christian now alive in the flesh would receive God's blessed assurance.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. – John 5:24

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. – Romans 8:38-39

But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep [you] from evil. – 2 Th 3:3

This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. - I John 1:5-7

To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. – John 10:3-5

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. - James 4:7

God's Name is I AM.

Any practicing Catholic would find that hard to do, since there is an OT reading at every mass.

But I know what you mean. As a person born Jewish, it would bother me if your comment were true.
