LDS Church Battening Down Hatches (OPEN)
The Mormon Times ^ | Wednesday, Apr. 14, 2010 | Jerry Earl Johnston

Posted on 04/15/2010 8:56:50 AM PDT by T Minus Four

Think of the Salt Lake Temple as a designer bottle holding a one-of-a-kind fragrance.

Think of the gardens and buildings of Temple Square as bubble wrap around that container.

Think of the City Creek Center to the south, the Church Plaza to the east, the Conference Center to the north, and the Family History Library and Church History Museum to the west as a firm, sturdy box around all of it.

When something merits that much protection, you have to figure rough bumps and bounces are coming down the road.

I get a feeling the LDS Church sees turbulence ahead -- nasty weather -- and it is making preparations.

It's not about being defensive and keeping things out.

It's about being protective and keeping precious things safe.

When the chilly winds blow, forest creatures gather all that's life-sustaining about them.

Horses in the fields cluster together to stand against the hail.

I feel the LDS Church battening down the hatches for bad weather.

The Tabernacle Choir, which was performing musical versions of Robert Frost poetry and other secular works, now releases CDs filled with songs of faith, assurance and the need to rely on the Divine.

I feel protection is the point behind the long row of sentries -- those Mormon temples -- that stand along the Wasatch -- the new Brigham City temple, new Payson temple, the new remade Ogden temple and all the others.

I feel protect precious things is the point of the new mission statements of LDS businesses, the point for books that are picked for publication and the lessons selected for manuals.

Part of the world would divide and conquer.

The church would gather and protect.

Something uneasy this way comes. Not a vilent clash as in Jerusalem -- where cultures fight openly. We won't be seeing stone throwers in the streets of Salt Lake City.

The battle here won't be about territory.

It will be about choices -- about the advent of a bolder, more self-indulgent popular culture.

The church can see the writing on the wall -- often literally.

And graffiti on the temple will never do.

It's time -- as the old hymn has it -- to "safely gather in, ere the winter storms begin."

The plan is not to force people away.

The plan is to keep what's on the inside safe from harm.

And if that means putting up ramparts and watchtowers, so be it.

Even heaven, if you believe the stories, is a gated community -- not to keep people away, but to safeguard the gentle hearts of those who dwell there.

The ‘new records’ are actually older original copies of the New Testament that were in the possession of the Orthodox Church in the east and weren't available to the King James translators, who used the Catholic Vulgate to get their translation.

But if you did any actual study of the NIV translation instead of parroting your ‘church,’ you would have known that.

Exactly. There are more inactive LDS then there are active I suspect.

Most of my friends who didn’t go through the process did so because they didn’t want to upset their families or they didn’t see LDS, inc. having any authority over them so what was the point.

For me, the name removal process was so they could no longer officially count me as a member and even then they still had me listed as a member for 18 months after I got my name removal. I have no idea how long that would have gone on, but the ward clerk made the mistake of calling me to update my info so the VT’s/HT’s could come over.

Yep, people are entitled to their own opinions, as incorrect as they may be. And they can be shown to be incorrect once the preset conditions for basis of said opinion expire, and the belief goes unrealized.

Five generations BIC gives rise to tons of relatives. Especially in northern Utah where cousin Jerry was born and raised.

I’m not parroting anything. I’m saying you’re absolutely corect. There are many more records out there than contained in the current version of the Bible. Many :)

I know that there are those that say lds are conservative, however the rabid support of Romney, the support of Reid (given an award a few months ago by lds for being a good lds) - how is this conservative? I am beginning to doubt they are.

I still have the 12 year old deacons come every month to collect ‘fast offerings.’

How the heck can I get myself on the ‘do not disturb’ list. I just wish they would leave me alone.

A play on their old saying.....I can leave the Church, but THEY can’t leave me alone.

I see you are one of those interesting people who like to make jabs and then close with a fake pleasantry.

“Pow! Have a nice day!”

“Zap! I’ll pray for you!”

“Blam! You’re welcome!”

I wonder what makes people do this?

If you mean weekly attendance in church you are correct, there are more inactive than active, just like any other church. However, I won’t provide you with details because you should have to find out on your own :)

I had a friend long ago who claimed that if you answered the door naked, the JW would never come back.

Well, it is just a tactic. Not a good one, it is common.
So I will just leave you with “be seeing you”.

“If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed” 2 John 1:10

The LDS bring false doctrine and I include God Bless in that. I do not say “God Bless” to heretics.

Rather I tell you, Repent of your polytheism and heresies and then God will bless you truly.

The records were from the same sources as the King James, the books contained were the same, they were simply much older.

Nothing was unusual, subtracted or added. The information that came to light from the east just added verification, confirmation and clarification to the existent translations.

Go study it. It is fascinating. You might actually learn something about actual translation processes that don’t include putting your face in a hat! lol

I actually had a friend who did that. They never bothered him again.
I am a coward to do the naked thing. I did however, put a tissue over my mouth coughed and said I had just be diagnosed with TB. They never came back.

Is your husband active? That makes it a little tricky. If he isn’t then they have no reason to come to your house.

If you know a non-LDS lawyer have him write a letter to the Bishop. Otherwise, send a ‘do not contact’ letter threatening legal action for harassment and media reports.

If you want, I can send you a sample “no contact” letter.
