LDS Church Battening Down Hatches (OPEN)
The Mormon Times ^ | Wednesday, Apr. 14, 2010 | Jerry Earl Johnston

Posted on 04/15/2010 8:56:50 AM PDT by T Minus Four

Think of the Salt Lake Temple as a designer bottle holding a one-of-a-kind fragrance.

Think of the gardens and buildings of Temple Square as bubble wrap around that container.

Think of the City Creek Center to the south, the Church Plaza to the east, the Conference Center to the north, and the Family History Library and Church History Museum to the west as a firm, sturdy box around all of it.

When something merits that much protection, you have to figure rough bumps and bounces are coming down the road.

I get a feeling the LDS Church sees turbulence ahead -- nasty weather -- and it is making preparations.

It's not about being defensive and keeping things out.

It's about being protective and keeping precious things safe.

When the chilly winds blow, forest creatures gather all that's life-sustaining about them.

Horses in the fields cluster together to stand against the hail.

I feel the LDS Church battening down the hatches for bad weather.

The Tabernacle Choir, which was performing musical versions of Robert Frost poetry and other secular works, now releases CDs filled with songs of faith, assurance and the need to rely on the Divine.

I feel protection is the point behind the long row of sentries -- those Mormon temples -- that stand along the Wasatch -- the new Brigham City temple, new Payson temple, the new remade Ogden temple and all the others.

I feel protect precious things is the point of the new mission statements of LDS businesses, the point for books that are picked for publication and the lessons selected for manuals.

Part of the world would divide and conquer.

The church would gather and protect.

Something uneasy this way comes. Not a vilent clash as in Jerusalem -- where cultures fight openly. We won't be seeing stone throwers in the streets of Salt Lake City.

The battle here won't be about territory.

It will be about choices -- about the advent of a bolder, more self-indulgent popular culture.

The church can see the writing on the wall -- often literally.

And graffiti on the temple will never do.

It's time -- as the old hymn has it -- to "safely gather in, ere the winter storms begin."

The plan is not to force people away.

The plan is to keep what's on the inside safe from harm.

And if that means putting up ramparts and watchtowers, so be it.

Even heaven, if you believe the stories, is a gated community -- not to keep people away, but to safeguard the gentle hearts of those who dwell there.

“Saundra is a solid polygamy advocate...”

Gee thanks for belatedly pinging me to this. I think you are referring to my posts during the FLDS outrage where over 400 children were kidnapped at gunpoint and dumped in a coliseum and then farmed out all over Texas to foster homes and orphanages.

I am a “solid” advocate for the Constitution.

Does this mean you will now tell us (and Elsie in particular) what Joe Smith found was false in Presbyterianism? LOL

I was lietening to Shawn last night..

I was sick to my stomach when he said that the mormons believe David is in Hell...

And he said that mormons believe murderers cannot be forgiven but go to Hell...

That means Joey Smith and Briggy Young are in hell...

BTW I thought oif this scripture when he said that mormon believe murder was unforgivable...

(however abortion is OK)

God said...

And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Matthew 12:31

This reminds me when I was very young like age 20 and inquired of the clery for answers and was told those things are done away with they are no longer it was about those things in the Bible.

Yet after many years of my quest I found it for I knew with in my being the Lord would not leave His Children that the Lord had a Church on earth!

As a side note, the ‘upstanding’ Mormon, Orrin Hatch, has stated that a newly conceived human in a petri dish is not a human until implanted in a human womb. And he doesn’t see any problem with duplicity don’tchaknow.

There is also this one about David...

His baby was dead and had gone to Abraham’s Bosom (Heaven) ..

and David said that he would join him there..

I will go to him, but he will not return to me.” 2 samuel 12:23

“I do not agree with you I rather listen to the spirit of the Lord then another tradition man!”

If it was the “spirit of the Lord” who was speaking to you, you would not be in a cult, Resty!

And if you refuse to be a “workman” when it comes to studying the Scriptures (as God commands), well, then what does that say about you?????????

It is easier to use the see and say method + feelings or familiar spirits. God doesn’t ever command that. God tells us “be a workman, unashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

You can do it young lady!

Oh my, Resty, you just contradicted the founderfs of your religion ... they assert that the Lord left huamns without ‘the chruch’ from the death of the last apostle to the advent of joey smith. But I suppose it is not possible to see how you yourself contradict your own religion ...

I was talking about your many posts arguing with the FReepers who said polygamy was a foul abomination...

You appeared to claim it was of God...

Are you saying now that you dont support polygamy ???

Don’t you know it’s not ‘fair’ to point to the duplicity of Mormon posters?

“Statements such as this one are called dissing another’s faith.”

Actually, it is true that the mormon jesus is weak and unable to save. When you change the glory of the Son into a pathetic, created being, you reap the consequences.

The weak mormon jesus is not the Biblical Jesus Christ, who was God, without beginning or end. Never created or made.

He alone can save.

Worth two reposts:

“worth a repost:

“You (mormonism) changed the Gospel of Christ for a system of man-made works! You accepted every heresy known to the Church. You changed the image of God into an exalted man. You changed my Son into a created thing! Repent today.”

I am a “solid” advocate for the Constitution
____________________________________________

However the polygamist mormons were not...

they were at war with the US government...

Even the endowments in the mormon ceremonies included blood oaths of revenge against the US government...

and by its very nature polygamy is not supported by the Constitution...

Neither is mormonism...

Anything that denies a person equal rights is not supported by the Constitution...

anything that enslaves a person is not Constitutional...

Mormonism is unConstitutional..

You did not truely ponder my post and than make whiled accusations because if you did read what I have posted and the scriptures which testify not my words but the words of the Lord and you want marginalized them because they do witness there is a Father and a Son.

THE EPISTLE OF PAUL THE APOSTLE TO THE HEBREWS

CHAPTER 1

The Son is in the express image of the person of the Father—Christ is the Only Begotten Son and thus above the angels.

Gen 1

26 ¶ And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Why bother to ask questions if you are not going to read them just go off into another realm to distant yourself from the facts that are presented.

NONE of YOU can have it both ways you want to slam but can not tolerate when facts are presented!

Than turn around and make a mockery with inane Elsie torts!

This kind of behavior from those who opposed the LDS testify from your own mouths of what the Lord told Joseph in the grove...

JS-H 1:

19 I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: “they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof.”

My statement stands on its own merits.

In order for your claims to stand, you must have faith that what JS said is above reproach. It has been shown that he was not, this is factual and to claim that I'm "demonizing" and "throwing a tantrum" is disingenous and an outright falsehood.
