The Bible tells us the body of Jesus was wrapped in multiple pieces of cloth and that his head was wrapped in a separate cloth from those which shrouded his body. I think it's a middle age fake.
“the body of Jesus was wrapped in multiple pieces of cloth and that his head was wrapped in a separate cloth from those which shrouded his body.”
It seems clear from a study of scripture and definitions of words used in the Greek that a long piece of linen, such as the shroud was used length-wise to cover his body, this piece was folded at the head. A separate piece was used as a head covering. Then a piece or pieces were used to ‘spiral wrap’ the body to hold the shroud in place. This does not support a conclusion that it is a middle age fake.
Where does the Bible say multiple pieces of cloth were used?
Also, did you happen to watch the recent 2-hour show called THE REAL FACE OF JESUS? It was very interesting and went into more detail than I've yet seen on the shroud. In addition to it matching so many aspects of Jesus's last day, one of the most compelling arguments to me is the fact that no one can explain HOW it could have been made by man. There's no pigment of any kind. The darkening (that creates the image) is only two micro-fibers deep. I recommend checking out the show.
Multiple means more than one. There was the shroud and the head cloth. Both are preserved.
I think it's a middle age fake.
Fake? How did the "artist" manage to place pollen from Jerusalem in the cloth?
The Bible tells us that Joseph of Aramethea bought a fine Linen Sindon... by definition, a large linen sheet. Yes, there were other cloths used, and Jewish writings tell us exactly how they were used... to bind the wrists and ankles to keep them from flopping akimbo in death, and another to wrap AROUND the face to keep the mouth closed.., in other words under the jaw, behind the ears and over the crown of the head. Two years ago, a collapsed tomb was discovered with an uncollected 1st century burial was found... with a shroud, tied at the wrists and ankles and with the face cloth around the skull in just such a manner.
