Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on the latest attack on the pope by the New York Times:
Once upon a time there was a homosexual priest who was accused of molesting boys in Germany. That was 30 years ago. At the approval of Archbishop Joseph Ratzinger (now the pope), he was sent away for therapy and was later reinstated; years later, under a new archbishop, there was another incident and more therapy.
We know this because the New York Times (which does not like to report on molesting rabbis in 2010), told us about this on Saturday in a front-page article. Today, it ran a front-page article on the same story. Was there any difference? Yes. On Saturday, the Times was only able to identify the priest as bearing the initial "H." Today, it has real news: his name is Hullermann. And now "H" has been suspended.

I didn’t quote any percentages.
Sorry, that was at Mike, not you.
I agree that one case is too many, but if people are going to quote the Vatican it behooves them not to distort what they say.
No worries! Wow! Is this thread still hot?
These guys need to setup a FR PedophileProtectorPing List!
Call it PP Ping for short!
;-)
5% falls between those figures.
It would have been distorted if I said 6% or 8%
Got your PP List ready yet?
How about dealing with them all, including the enablers. This is not a 30 year old problem. It is current and ongoing. The popes in recent years have not really stepped up and cleaned up their house.
Take your unfairness argument to the victims of this abuse by perverted priests and those who enabled them.
It’s still distortion.
You want to call me a pedophile protector, fair enough, swing away.
At least I’m not a liar.
Which being to mind the following:
Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Seems like Rome was more intrested in being conformed to this world.
The only list I see here is one unsubstantiated by any facts or even statistics.
What statistics are you using to make claims such as these?
As far as I know, there are no "good" statistical numbers to make a comparison between Protestant and RC clergy on the issue of the sexual abuse of minors. Your links certainly don't show info that would make a comparison possible.
Tell me -- do you think that if a lie is repeated often enough it becomes the truth?
Sigh.
Because it isn't true. The other religions are not even CLOSE to the organized behemouth the RC Church is, and the other religions don't preach that if you leave the Lutherans (or whatever), you are condemned to hell.
They know that true salvation lies in grace alone through faith alone, not through membership or rituals.
The pedophile problem in the RC Church is a symptom, not the real problem with the church.
The only thing worth being angry about is the false religion it is.
Sure there are; sexual malpractice among Protestant clergy is 5x to 10x more prevalent than among Catholic clergy. I've even provided you with the corroborating data and links. You closing your eyes, sticking your fingers in your ears and shouting la-la-la-la-la at the top of your lungs won't make it go away. The fact is is that this in NOT just a Catholic problem and your denial of that is contributing to the problem within your Church.
Then stay away from the Church. Why should you care about an organization you are not a member of? Membership and participation is voluntary.
I do stay away, but so many I love are still trapped :-(
Did somebody lock them in? Call the police.
That would be funny...except it’s not funny :=(
You have condemned the Catholic Church. How and where did you study the Catechism, Canon Law, Epistles, and history of the Church such that you believe that you made a properly informed decision and were not unduly influenced by those possessed by hatred or ignorance?
I read the bible. I'm of the firm conviction that the authors of the bible were possessed of neither ignorance nor hatred. Especially since God breathed the words into them.
