Is it "Catholic" or "Roman Catholic?" <Vanity><Ecumenical>
Posted on 02/26/2010 1:08:31 AM PST by Gamecock
So I have a question about terminology.
Some of our Catholic FRiends get upset when we Prods use the term Roman Catholic, insisting that the term is derogatory, insulting, etc.
What I would like to discuss is why do Catholics complain about the term Roman Catholic, when the term is in such wide use inside of the Catholic church?
Thoughts?

IT JUST MAKES ME WONDER AS I THINK ABOUT IT, IF THIS YOUNG MAN WAS MOLESTED HIMSELF BY A PRIEST. BEING CATHOLIC MAY NOT HAVE HAD A THING TO DO WITH IT, BUT GIVEN THE HISTORY OF SOME PRIESTS, I HAVE TO WONDER.

THE BOY IS NOW IN HIS 40’S. WE KNEW NOTHING ABOUT IT UNTIL BOTH WERE ADULTS. I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE THE OTHER ONE LIVES.

And so you now tell the world? And she uses the sexual molestation of her son which has no connection whatsoever to the Catholic Church to slander priests the world over. Pure class.

I’M GLAD i’M NOT YOUR MOMMA EITHER. LIFE WAS BAD ENOUGH, lol. MAYBE TALKING ABOUT IT WILL HELP SOMEONE ELSE WHO HAS GONE THROUGH THE SAME THING.

Do you even read the links you post?Sure I do. Do you leave your kids in the care of Protestant Churches? Well, with the rampant sexual abuse going on there, I would say that you are leaving them in danger. I mean, that's exactly the implication you were making when asking the oft repeated creepy question "do you have children" right?
And let's not forget:
838 protestant MINISTERS molesting children.

how do you know there was no connection? Just hoping?

This Religion Forum thread is labeled "ecumenical."
Stop the antagonism.
To: boatbums
It is expressed in the preamble and in chapter 3, as I indicated a few days back.
I won’t have access to the Internet for about a week, so it would be easier if I did not have to follow circular posts from you when I return.

My circular posts? Okay, do what you wish "when you return", but I will not let your response, or non-response stand unanswered. I reread the letter from Ignatius to Rome, and the "primacy of Rome" you suggest is in there must be hiding behind some words that you may interpret a certain way because I do not see them. It would help if you were to actually say what the words are that Ignatius says rather than to point me to the section where they supposedly are. Ignatius was brought up in the first place, not as inspired scripture, but as the first instance a first-century Christian used the word "catholic" and what was his meaning behind the word.

I was referring to the entire Preamble and also this (Ch. 3):
You have never envied any one; you have taught others
The Epistle of Ignatius to the Romans
What we see here is that the Roman Church is in the position to teach other churches.
