There are multiple versions of this art (?) form all over Europe. This one's in Geneva, and it's the centerpiece of a wall some 100 yards long, all covered with more idolatrous depictions of various Reformers. Since many of the American Reformers have never been further than the county line in their entire lives, how would you expect them to know that?
And even if they did, the excuse making from the top is rather involved, since the theology is indefensible.
Of all things, they've got Old Nod, Oliver Cromwell, on the wall. Capable general, ruthless dictator, exterminator of Irish and Scots as well as members of his own team . . . but hardly a religious reformer!
I guess when you have 100 yards of wall to fill up, you can't be too choosy.
