When the thought of people who differ is difficult to follow, certainly one way to deal with it is to accuse them of prevarication and periphrasis. One benefit of this response is that one can feel morally and spiritually superior without ever actually dealing with the thought of the other side.

"I don't really know what they think, but I know it's wrong." Is one variant. The other is, "Not only do I not know what they think, it also doesn't matter much, so I'll just charge them with whatever comes to my mind."
