Who are the Catholics: The Orthodox or The Romanists, or both?

I just witnessed a couple of Orthodox posters get kicked off a "Catholic Caucus" thread. I thought, despite their differences, they had a mutual understanding that each sect was considered "Catholic". Are not the Orthodox considered Catholic? Why do the Romanists get to monopolize the term "Catholic"?

I consider myself to be Catholic being a part of the universal church of Christ. Why should one sect be able to use a universal concept to identify themselves in a caucus thread while other Christian denominations need to use specific qualifiers to identify themselves in a caucus thread?

The question comes with those who make the claim but for whom the evidence is, well.... spotty and possibly contradictory.

Nonetheless, although I hold in question the Christian identity of some of those herein who claim to be Christian, it'd be wrong to come to any conclusions based on Internet interactions.

I'm just saying that we shouldn't automatically accept that all who call themselves Christian herein are actually separated brethren. We should exercise a little caution so as not to be open to their false teachings.

Nearly all Protestants are Christians; however, there is a small group of anti-Catholic FReepers who I no longer believe to be Christian.

Christians do not repeat a lie that has been corrected too many times to count and they do not fabricate falsehoods in order to smear others.

I think it's matter of discernment, or target selection, and also of Charity. Despite the rep Dominic (contemporary of Francis) has, his biographers describe his as weeping for sinners, for heretics.

I have had the bracing experience of conversing with evidently dry as dust, conventional Catholics and finding mordant wit and deep and joyful spirituality.

Here we go again——establishing a sort of spiritual elitism.

One would be even tempted to call it a form of hierachial class distinction.

I have a sincere opinion that the “greatest among us are the servants of all”—that the real treasures are the “yeast hidden in the dough”—that those who are “brought to nought for Him discover who they are”, that “all that is hidden will be revealed”; that the lowly and humble of heart are the heirs of heaven and that we will all be surprised at who “made it”.

We also will understand what it means: “he who talketh much cannot avoid sin”.

God forbid that we should be in the streets trumpeting our spiritual gifts and lengthening our spiritual resumes.

So much to learn—so little time—such need for grace.

Obviously, we're dealing with personae on the Internet, and we shouldn't come to any hard-and-fast diagnoses or conclusions about anyone.

We should all be cautious whether on the internet or not. It is too easy to mis-focus from the fruits to the person (Matt 7:15-17).

God’s justice is perfection: we each individually build the scales whereby we will be each and individually measured – weight by weight.

Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. – Matthew 7:1-2

God assures the balance:

Harder still, we must control our minds. God's justice involves our innermost thoughts even when we don’t verbalize them or act on them:
