I just witnessed a couple of Orthodox posters get kicked off a "Catholic Caucus" thread. I thought, despite their differences, they had a mutual understanding that each sect was considered "Catholic". Are not the Orthodox considered Catholic? Why do the Romanists get to monopolize the term "Catholic"?
I consider myself to be Catholic being a part of the universal church of Christ. Why should one sect be able to use a universal concept to identify themselves in a caucus thread while other Christian denominations need to use specific qualifiers to identify themselves in a caucus thread?
“what’s your view?”
I’m not inclined to give my views about anyone on a public forum...especially since none are know to me personally, but only as people with a screen name who post on the forum.
Mad Dawg can take care of himself—and anybody who engages him, as well.
Having failed to make the proper inferences from the important difference that many Protestant churches hire their pastors while Catholic churches get them assigned, you erred in discussing the relationship between parishioner and priest. In that way you said something about how we treat our clergy.
I'd get a migraine if I tried to do all that analyzing...
On the one hand you talk about almost begging us to tell you what we teach and believe WHILE AT THE SAME TIME you tell us what we teach and believe and that it is as wrong as can be.
You're mistaken again...You (collectively) tell us what you believe but it never adds up...So we tell you what that other Catholic believes because he is speaking for your church just the same as you are...
In my opinion, a person firmly wedded to his evaluation of a thing does not think he needs to know anything about it. He thinks he already knows enough.
I only know what you guys tell me and what I read...I can't help it if you're all over the map...
Mr. R-Well, according to scripture, we ARE sons of God, yet we DO disobey...so either we disobey because we can
What you are saying is that God opens everyone's eyes and heart and can accept or reject God at that point by making a decision. I'm saying that is not found in scripture nor is that what the complete word of God teaches. You will not find the gospel of John saying that.
That is why we pray for the salvation of others. God must bring them to repentance, acceptance, and submission. We pray for others that God will save them all the while submitting to the knowledge that His will and saving grace are perfect.
People cannot change this fact. They may hand out tracts or stand on street corners preaching until their blue in the face, but unless God moves to change that heart nothing will happen. It doesn't mean that God does not want us to do these things. It simply means that the reason someone comes to Christ is because of God the Father. And for that, all the angels rejoice.
That is why every Christian no matter their persuasion will tell you that "God saved me." as someone here mentioned. Deep down, every Christian knows this fact and is the cause of our praise to God.
*(One could say we have faith and then repent but that's another discussion.)
Take one of these and call me in the morning:
Reading From the constitution on the sacred Liturgy of the Second Vatican Council Christ is present to his Church
Christ is always present to his Church, especially in the actions of the liturgy. He is present in the sacrifice of the Mass, in the person of the minister (it is the same Christ who formerly offered himself on the cross that now offers by the ministry of priests) and most of all under the Eucharistic species. He is present in the sacraments by his power, in such a way that when someone baptizes, Christ himself baptizes. He is present in his word, for it is he himself who speaks when the holy Scriptures are read in the Church. Finally, he is present when the Church prays and sings, for he himself promised: Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there in their midst.
Indeed, in this great work which gives perfect glory to God and brings holiness to men, Christ is always joining in partnership with himself his beloved Bride, the Church, which calls upon its Lord and through him gives worship to the eternal Father.
It is therefore right to see the liturgy as an exercise of the priestly office of Jesus Christ, in which through signs addressed to the senses mans sanctification is signified and, in a way proper to each of these signs, made effective, and in which public worship is celebrated in its fullness by the mystical body of Jesus Christ, that is, by the head and by his members.
Accordingly, every liturgical celebration, as an activity of Christ the priest and of his body, which is the Church, is a sacred action of a pre-eminent kind. No other action of the Church equals its title to power or its degree of effectiveness.
In the liturgy on earth we are given a foretaste and share in the liturgy of heaven, celebrated in the holy city of Jerusalem, the goal of our pilgrimage, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God, as minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle. With the whole company of heaven we sing a hymn of praise to the Lord; as we reverence the memory of the saints, we hope to have some part with them, and to share in their fellowship; we wait for the Saviour, our Lord Jesus Christ, until he, who is our life, appears, and we appear with him in glory.
By an apostolic tradition taking its origin from the very day of Christs resurrection, the Church celebrates the paschal mystery every eighth day, the day that is rightly called the Lords day. On Sunday the Christian faithful ought to gather together, so that by listening to the word of God and sharing in the Eucharist they may recall the passion, death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus and give thanks to God who has given them a new birth with a lively hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. The Lords day is therefore the first and greatest festival, one to be set before the loving devotion of the faithful and impressed upon it, so that it may be also a day of joy and of freedom from work. Other celebrations must not take precedence over it, unless they are truly of the greatest importance, since it is the foundation and the kernel of the whole liturgical year.
Think of a window on a house. You are standing outside at night, shining a flashlight on a window. You will not see inside the house, only the reflection of your own flashlight.
When you stand outside at night, and the light comes from inside the house, you can turn off your flashlight and see in. Get it?
The window is the barrier of prejudgment. Preconceived notions about Catholics will only reflect back your own "light" such as it may be. iThe brighter the flashlight you shine on the window, the less you will see.
"For now we see through a glass darkly, but then, face to face." Seems to me as though St. Paul is saying, here, that WE CANNOT KNOW EVERYTHING until that day. The flashlight of preconception is one of the barriers to sight.
Get it?
Not sure what you’re asking for more of.
Merely talking about the same human nature Paul talked about being in him and the rest of us.
I believe Christ’s Blood makes Believers legally whole and perfect . . . yet the walking out of integrating HIS PERFECTION into us . . . conforming us to His image in us . . . takes a lifetime.
I only know what you guys tell me and what I read...I can’t help it if you’re all over the map...

There is THAT for sure! LOL.
Preconceptions slices both ways,
however.
Most excellent! I haven’t seen it explained as well as you have. :-)
I also notice that you mention the light shining from within the house.
It calls to my mind St. Teresa’s “Interior Castle”.
(I am a Secular (meaning “lay” or “third order”) Carmelite.
Very nice. It would be worthy of posting on the next President Obama thread.
Don’t worry. It was a brain um eructation. Of the kind the Algore thinks leads to the death of polar bears.
No. I have it on good authority that it is a Pentecostal cat.
Discrete W00t!
You guys do it, and we Dominicans talk about it.
No, No, No...When you've got a priest sticking his head out the window telling you what's inside and you go to the next window with another priest hanging out describing a different scene, you tend to think the house may be empty and these guys are making everything up...
Well thank you...
Wishful thinking on your part maybe...
I do not wish for anyone to trivialize the worship of God.
I was added to the church that Jesus created when I accepted Jesus as my Savior...Just as hundreds of millions, or billions of other Christians have done...
From your posts, I'm not sure that you understand Jesus; how can you accept Him? I would not say that the JWs have accepted Christ, for instance.
Act 2:47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the Baptist church daily such as should be saved.
Uh huh. I didn't know that you called yourself Baptist.
Thank you (*blush*)
What are you talking about??? We've been saying that all along...
You guys say a lot of things, mostly contradictory. Nobody turns into Jesus Christ, regardless of what you guys claim. Also, Jesus is not to be manipulated by the various Protestant groups, all of whom contradict each other.
Yours is the religion that has priests turning into Jesus Christ...Your debate is with other Catholics...We're just watching to see who the winner is...
The winner is God; the losers are those who reject Him.
I just said that priests aren't teachers the way Protestant pastors are teachers. We look THROUGH our priests, not at 'em.
So look in the window yourself. EVERY SINGLE convert (like maybe 4 total) whom I've sponsored saw for himself/herself.
You all are so wedded to this concept that we are driven by shepherds that you can't entertain what we keep telling you. Look in the window. But just as "those who seek, find," Those who seek some kind of gotcha will think they've found that. They'll pick it up and wave it about and say, "Looky here!" We in the house will look at them for a minute or two and then go back to our feast.
"In My Father's house are many mansions...." Did you think He made those mansions from celestial cookie cutters?
