I just witnessed a couple of Orthodox posters get kicked off a "Catholic Caucus" thread. I thought, despite their differences, they had a mutual understanding that each sect was considered "Catholic". Are not the Orthodox considered Catholic? Why do the Romanists get to monopolize the term "Catholic"?
I consider myself to be Catholic being a part of the universal church of Christ. Why should one sect be able to use a universal concept to identify themselves in a caucus thread while other Christian denominations need to use specific qualifiers to identify themselves in a caucus thread?
God already spoke for Himself in the scriptures...I'm just reminding you what He said...

Consider the words of St Paul:
1 Cor 1:23 -- But we preach Christ crucified: unto the Jews indeed a stumbling block, and unto the Gentiles foolishness:
1 Cor 2:2 -- For I judged not myself to know anything among you, but Jesus Christ: and him crucified.
Gal 3:1 -- O senseless Galatians, who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth: before whose eyes Jesus Christ has been set forth, crucified among you?
All throughout St. Paul's letters, it's clear he talks about the sacrifice of Christ and the reality of the great price He had to pay for our redemption.
And I will tell you that regular and thorough contemplation of that price, through meditation of the account of His passion, tends to reduce one's sense of self-righteousness and increase one's level of humility. Thus, those peculiar Catholic traditions of crucifixes, passion plays, stations of the cross, &tc.
Now I can appreciate the desire of an iconoclast to get rid of ALL images, all visual cues and reminders, including the empty cross, in order to remove the possibility of something being perceived as bowing down to an idol. I don't agree and think it is misguided, but I can understand it.
And I absolutely can agree that some of the modernist depictions of the crucifix are horrendous.
But, in light of the Scriptures, I cannot fathom why the revulsion that some have toward the traditional image of Christ crucified.

If you feel called to curse someone, that’s the way God works sometimes. It’s uncommon, but it happens.
I know. I’ve seen such happen with at least 5 people in my life.
And after talking last night with a hard working missionary in Asia . . . I may be gearing up to pray in that way about more than Coakley. Idiocy is again destructively leading the missionary committee.
God have mercy on people of good will and His priorities.
May those most horrifically contrary to Him and His priorities fall in the pit they have dug and that speedily. May He make of them vivid examples of the consequences of choosing satan and his priorities over God’s.
May all who see their fall know that GOD HIMSELF has made of such creatures vivid examples of how NOT to live and do.
LET GOD ARISE AND HIS ENEMIES BE SCATTERED.
May the horrifically cruel evil doer choke on his/her own spittle.

May the sex lives and activities of every such evil doer become painfully and overtly hideously disgusting and wretched even to them—in justice for what they have done to their victims and the unborn.
May such evil doers be haunted with nightmares of the evils they have done coming home to roost in their own lives and bodies.
May such unrepentant creatures relentlessly face themselves in their mirrors and in their nightmares until they cannot stand to tolerate themselves any longer.
May any so led pray in similar agreement against such horrific evils and such hideous evil doers.

There;s a Jesuit at UVA who often celebrates Mass at our (Dominican) parish. He’s an ‘istorian, and has written and exhaustive (and occasionally eexhausting) history of the Catholic Church in VA. Fascinating.
I asked him about all the VERY “Catholic” names a lot of the “red necks” (NOT a put down, not at ALL) have and whether there wasn’t some kind of Catholic (maybe from Scotland? but maybe from England as well?) emmigration winding way up in the holler.” HE was dubious.
But come on! My next door neighbor “BL” - Bernard Louis. If that ain’t Catholic I don’t know what is! Clem(ent), Ferd(inand), Cletus? All Catholic names!
I would say, Yeah. When it comes to mistakes, we Catholics hold a disastrous pre-eminence. Thanks for your post.
