I just witnessed a couple of Orthodox posters get kicked off a "Catholic Caucus" thread. I thought, despite their differences, they had a mutual understanding that each sect was considered "Catholic". Are not the Orthodox considered Catholic? Why do the Romanists get to monopolize the term "Catholic"?
I consider myself to be Catholic being a part of the universal church of Christ. Why should one sect be able to use a universal concept to identify themselves in a caucus thread while other Christian denominations need to use specific qualifiers to identify themselves in a caucus thread?
It is only your intellectually lazy nature or your desire to remain ignorant that kept you from getting this directly from the Vatican website yourself. From the Catechism of the Catholic Church:
1375 - It is by the conversion of the bread and wine into Christ's body and blood that Christ becomes present in this sacrament. The Church Fathers strongly affirmed the faith of the Church in the efficacy of the Word of Christ and of the action of the Holy Spirit to bring about this conversion. Thus St. John Chrysostom declares:
It is not man that causes the things offered to become the Body and Blood of Christ, but he who was crucified for us, Christ himself. The priest, in the role of Christ, pronounces these words, but their power and grace are God's. This is my body, he says. This word transforms the things offered.
And St. Ambrose says about this conversion:
Be convinced that this is not what nature has formed, but what the blessing has consecrated. The power of the blessing prevails over that of nature, because by the blessing nature itself is changed. . . . Could not Christ's word, which can make from nothing what did not exist, change existing things into what they were not before? It is no less a feat to give things their original nature than to change their nature.
it’s all covered in the bible
YOUR church can't allow anything...Your church doesn't even exist in scripture...
We become a member of the Body when we get saved...The 'church' IS the saved...It is NOT an organization empowered to accept or reject anything...
The church of Jesus Christ is spiritual...It's not physical...There are no buildings...
Let me ask you something...Is it your physical body that is a member of your church, or is it your soul???
Oh I can imagine people who are young in the Christian faith becoming catholic...absolutley. Or for that matter be attracted to any other faith.. Because if their church and it’s people ONLY lead them to that place of salvation, and does not instruct them further as to the truths represented in scripture for them to grow..and ground them in the faith, then they can easily fall prey to the wolves waiting to snatch them away, in any cult or practice that is out there....and they do snatch them up! and people will believe the lie. And what’s interesting it’s the young adults who saying they don’t want their churches to be or look like the last school dance or Fri.Night out on the town.
Today there is far too much emotionalism and feel good ‘tactics’,apart from solid teaching, thus we have people skip roping thru churches..one as good as the other. Lights, camera, action, and the show goes on...and the churches now are beginning to see this is not the way to go.
I speak of this wave of showmanship that has washed over many of the churches today. Because for the most part they have not found a balance, and I have seen many. It’s either high priestly music and fan fair, or so quiet and dead even the pastor falls asleep! But the sound of solid teaching is silent for the most part. This applies to most faiths.
The one that sent Peter to plant it?
The Catholic Catechism is free for anyone to see, on the net. No secrets. People even make up stuff about the Church, which is also all over the net for you to see. No curtains.
Well not to you, of course...I doubt that you would accept that it's raining except that you would call your church to confirm it...
So there you have it...The Roman Catholic catechism is the OTHER word of God...
Judith I was around then and no one other than the religious, alter BOYS (memorized the responses) and elite knew latin ( I attended a private girls school, so I took latin and still could not follow the mass..too much time on declensions I guess) ......beside that the priest had his back to you because what he was doing was a holy mystery or something..there were no mikes so you had to watch what they were doing and try to follow it in Latin and English missal and ya always fell behind..but when the bells rang you knew where to turn again. Little worship going on and alot of translations :)
There is no other word of God, it is the same word of God produced by the same tradition as the bible, by the same organization guided by the same Holy Spirit. It was produced specifically to prevent the kind of individually arrived at, selfagrandizing, fractionalisms expressed by so many anti-Catholics such as yourself.
Well they share a works based salvation so it might work :)
No I hadn’t noticed most were former Protestants...and if that is the case I’m sure they each have their own story how that came about.
But can you really blame them? Take a look at the Protestant churches today...they have as many issues as the catholics. It’s..... the church as a whole and entire who has failed.... to secure those who want to follow Christ, and we all know that.. and our nation today reflects and evidences this.
The rules really do work well on Free Republic.
Perhaps both your religious experience and religious education were so vacuous due to a lack of care or concern by you. I, and many, many others like me got much, much more out of the experience.
He was a good man.... I most hope he was saved because I would like to meet him without the threat of becoming one of "his boys" (my dad never told me it was a boys home:)
“I have a guilty conscience, always have, probably always will. That is my burden”
Based on that I believe you are headed down the road of Catholicism lol.
Amen.
Now that’s just a silly thing to say.
All men are sinners ...but I would like to see a comparison of the truly saved pastors to the priests and the unsaved pastors out there ... I suspect there would be a difference there
I most hope he was saved because I would like to meet him without the threat of becoming one of "his boys" (my dad never told me it was a boys home:)
RN Mom of 7 is a man?
That’s a silly conclusion to the obvious meaning of MD’s post.
