I just witnessed a couple of Orthodox posters get kicked off a "Catholic Caucus" thread. I thought, despite their differences, they had a mutual understanding that each sect was considered "Catholic". Are not the Orthodox considered Catholic? Why do the Romanists get to monopolize the term "Catholic"?
I consider myself to be Catholic being a part of the universal church of Christ. Why should one sect be able to use a universal concept to identify themselves in a caucus thread while other Christian denominations need to use specific qualifiers to identify themselves in a caucus thread?
Cut the hubris, I really, sincerely do not care what you believe. I only post to refute the falsehoods so that those like you do not further poison the minds of the innocent and the genuinely curious.
Continue? When was the last time I quoted Ignatius? And the time before that?
Many of what works are forgeries? Are the ones I quoted forged?
Exactly.
The other day several RCs were touting the use of physical symbols in the RCC as helpful worship aids. I can only conclude they haven't read the New Testament.
Anything that takes our mind off the actual, knowable Triune God is superfluous at best and idolatry at worst.
Christians don't need the symbols of trinkets and beads and statues in their hands or before their eyes to worship God in truth.
Christians require the Holy Spirit to wash them clean through His regeneration; to renew their minds to know the things of God in Scripture; and to replace their heart of stone with a heart of flesh filled with the spiritual understanding of Christ alone.
If they have to look to symbols in trinkets and statues and rosary beads for the grace of God, it may be they don't have it.
Yes our side is the only side the largest of whose communions or rites insists on unmarried clergy. But having read of pederasty among married Hasidim in Brooklyn and having witnessed the cover up of various sorts of sexual misbehavior including pederasty and ephebephilia in non-Catholic Churches I'm not sure that there is any connection, material or statistical between the attempt at celibate chastity and perversion and its concealment.
The one historically undeniable connection is that those who think that, despite the words of Christ and Paul, everyone should be sexually active are united in their repudiation of The Catholic Church
As usual they skip the parts of the Bible that bother them. It's the Protestant way.
Clearly. And just as clearly that's not what I[m criticizing. I'm criticizing spreading falsehoods about the Catholic Church. I doubt you'll find that duty in the Bible.
Neither "another Christ" nor "alter Christus" appear in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Fr. Baker's article does not appear at the original source.
Whose doctrine do you claim this to be?
Sola Eckleburg
Christians don't need the symbols of trinkets and beads and statues in their hands or before their eyes to worship God in truth.
Need? Where did you get "need?"
If they have to look to symbols in trinkets and statues and rosary beads for the grace of God, it may be they don't have it.
Have to? Where did you get "have to?"
Go back and read your posts. The proper name of the city was Antioch on the Orentes. You kept saying that it IS is Syria; I reminded you early on that saying that it IS in Syria is like saying that San Francisco IS in Mexico, but you did not pick up on that.
To expand on this line of reasoning, we might also, from your argument, say that the capital of Brazil is Lisbon, the capital of South Africa is Amsterdam, the capital of France is Berlin, the capital of Ethiopia is Rome, and the capital of India is London.
I would think the innocent and curious would wonder as well what your religion actually teaches...
Apparently all your priests are wrong...
Does your religion teach that it's priests turn into Jesus/God, or no...Explain it to us...
I did not elaborate on the scripture, I merely stated it.
If you choose to discard it, that is your choice.
I missed the part where images of, say, the Virgin Mary or of Joseph or Dominic are mentioned in the Old Testament. I know idols of false gods are mentioned, but not MY holy images. And, it doesn't matter how many times you say it, repetition only establishes truth among Nazis and Stalinists. You can't show it because it's not there.
AND, if you catch me advising that we should worship Diana of the Ephesians, you have my permission to claim you have made a case.
However this kind of 12 year old girl whispering about how the Ephesians thought their goddess was the Queen of Heaven and Catholics call Mary the Queen of Heaven (among other things) and therefore -- Whispers: Well, darlings, I don't really want to come right out and SAY it, now, DO I, but you girls KNOW what I MEAN, so I don't really HAVE to say it, do I?...
If that's the way you want to draw your conclusions, There's not a whole lot I can do for you. Come back when you want to try thinking instead of giggling.
Apparently Paul forgot to mentions that these little icons would be ok to use to worship God...Must have slipped his mind...
Funny how you guys shift FROM asserting with a straight face that there is an unambiguous prohibition TO saying that there is no unambiguous permission. But no one was arguing that there was unambiguous permission. YOUR side, right up until yhou got skunked and had top make the giggle argument, was saying there was an unambiguous prohibition.
Often wrong, never in doubt.
LOL..exactly ...not a “great” apologetic tactic huh?
It actually looks like he is going to kiss her feet..I wonder if there is some tradition in that ??
I don’t think it is about changing the few minds here, but the “lurkers” who are reading this thread, as someone unselfishly pointed out to me.
We have provided scripture upon scripture to back up our words. They have provided NONE.
From that, I have come to the understanding that is is NOT they whom we are trying to spread the word to, but those that are following along.
Exactly.. I had some one ask me what if an elect man is in deepest Africa how is He supposed to hear..I told him if God as foreordained that man to hear the gospel a battery radio will fall from the sky and he will tune into the gospel ...(Did ya ever see the gods are angry:)
I guess liberalism is "okay" when it suites the poster.
As usual they skip the parts of the Bible that bother them. It's the Protestant way.
No we don't...We just understand it...That's why the debate...
Paul says if you can remain single, great...If you find that you develop lust, get married...
Your religion starts at the early age of a child to groom him into a life of service...And I don't disagree with that...From what I've seen, that encouragement starts well before the puberty of the child...
And of course the first thing he learns is that priests can't be married...No problem with a pre-pubescent child...
And then the hormones kick in...But the kid already has his mind set on the priesthood...
Some may overcome but I suspect most will have a lifelong struggle with it or succumb to the desires secretly... And many have turned to homosexuality possibly because it provides a cover for them...
Paul did not say to make people celibate...He said some will be able to...And he said if they can not contain, get married...
And that's where the failure of your system is...When a priest loses the battle of his hormones, you should allow him to marry, just as Paul says...Not force him into secret sin, and then cover it up to protect the reputation of the church...
Bears repeating.
But all the alleged falshoods originate in your church...They're not our falsehoods, they're yours...
Nope. Paying attention to what is actually being said instead of making up stuff to use in scoring cheap points is key.
As for the know-nothing, "I'm just a humble peasant and you're a big fat Pharisee," approach, nope, nice try. The old humble but isn't gonna git 'er done.
"The Simplicity that is Christ Jesus"
Nice phrase. I kind of like the simplicity that is is I Cor 12. "Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers?" Yes, in Charity one can enjoy and participate and even be a part of spreading the Gospel of the Love of God in Jesus.
But Paul clearly says that NOT all are apostles, prophets teachers. This part of the Bible gives Sola Scriptura types the heebie jeebies because it suggest that maybe some of them shouldn't be trying to tell others how to think. And for some Christians, the whole POINT of religion is pushing other people around.
