Who are the Catholics: The Orthodox or The Romanists, or both?
Me

Posted on 01/05/2010 9:46:47 PM PST by the_conscience

I just witnessed a couple of Orthodox posters get kicked off a "Catholic Caucus" thread. I thought, despite their differences, they had a mutual understanding that each sect was considered "Catholic". Are not the Orthodox considered Catholic? Why do the Romanists get to monopolize the term "Catholic"?

I consider myself to be Catholic being a part of the universal church of Christ. Why should one sect be able to use a universal concept to identify themselves in a caucus thread while other Christian denominations need to use specific qualifiers to identify themselves in a caucus thread?

(”people who just can’t STAND it that we disagree with them.”)

I don’t think that’s the case at all Mad Dawg, rather that people are seeking to define the truth as God intended we should know.

Even the apostles argued amongst themselves, and I chance to think tempers flew at times. We are all passionate about what we believe to be true...because we are passionate toward the things of God..who is truth. When something or someone comes between the truths that we know, it’s quite right to stand for them,... He asks us to.

Our humanity may come into play as these are debated and mulled over, even time and time again, but in doing so the truth will in time be revealed.......and important.......IF it is truth one seeks.

Well they had all the church services in Latin until recently, so no one knew what they were saying, and now I’ve read where they are going to reinstate the practice.

That was probably a vast conspiracy against the separated brethren, to confuse them. (joke)

Perhaps most posters are too young to realize that Latin was taught in public and parochial schools well into the 60s. *sigh* It is more recently becoming part of the curriculum in the better public schools again.

Well, I'm stil up so I'll go back to an earlier post...

JOHN MACARTHUR: Well, it (election) simply means to be chosen. We would use the word election in our own culture to refer to someone being chosen. When someone is elected, they are chosen for a specific purpose. And that’s exactly what it means. It comes from a Greek verb, eklego, which means to pick out, to choose out. And it is the doctrine that says God chooses those who will be saved. And He does so sovereignly, according to His own will and His own purpose, uninfluenced by any other person, or by anything anyone does. That is to say the choice is apart from any action on the sinner’s part, which might render that sinner worthy or deserving of that choice.

Amen. When he's right, he's right.

The part that is the mystery, that we do not fully understand, is NOT that God is sovereign and elects whom He will for His own good reasons and not according to our good works, but we do not understand why He elects as He does.

All we know is that He does, and mercifully, He has elected us to believe in His Son's triumph on our behalf.

The only people who can pull threads are moderators.

Judith, I was not speaking of moderators, and I would be surprised if you didn't know that (but you surprise me a lot.)

Also, you seem to call in the moderator at the drop of a hat.

Regardless, whoever posts a thread can ask for that thread to be deleted. I've done that when I posted a duplicate thread.

So chill out. The fact remains a Roman Catholic FReeper posted that link. Period.

Let's hope it stays on the forum and doesn't disappear.

I personally consider this thread a classic, and will save it for future reference, and lots of laughs. I hope, sincerely, that it remains in the FR archives forever.

Is it possible you don't even know what thread is being discussed?

Really? Because I attended a Catholic school for 2 years in the 60’s, never heard no Latin. It was optional in high school though, which wasn’t Catholic

No doubt one of the "better schools."

If they go back to Latin then their people will go back to how it was in the Dark Ages...

Did you see where the Pope is going to attempt to reconcile the catholic church with the jewish people? I find this very interesting in regards to the times we live in.

My husband learned Greek and Latin in his parochial high school. He says the ability to read and understand those languages further encouraged him to flee the idolatry of Rome.

As God wills. 8~)

If that's his intent, the first thing he should do is apologize for Pacelli and drop the move to beatify him.

But he won't.

Yes, he’s also romancing the Muslims. Wonder what he’s up to? Reuniting Jerusalem? They have a mansion sitting there empty, awaiting the One.

Reuniting Jerusalem?

That's exactly what's happening. A triumvirate. More one-world garbage run by a "global authority."
