Who are the Catholics: The Orthodox or The Romanists, or both?
Me

Posted on 01/05/2010 9:46:47 PM PST by the_conscience

I just witnessed a couple of Orthodox posters get kicked off a "Catholic Caucus" thread. I thought, despite their differences, they had a mutual understanding that each sect was considered "Catholic". Are not the Orthodox considered Catholic? Why do the Romanists get to monopolize the term "Catholic"?

I consider myself to be Catholic being a part of the universal church of Christ. Why should one sect be able to use a universal concept to identify themselves in a caucus thread while other Christian denominations need to use specific qualifiers to identify themselves in a caucus thread?

Wow..."exhilarating" , intoxicating??It is all about "feelings..

Some are not troubled by inconsistency. If we are thoughtful, careful, precise, we are corrupted by philosophy. If we experience consolations in our prayer then "It is all about feelings."

So I'm too thoughtful and not thoughtful enough.. Okay.

Fruit analogies have nothing to do with it. There is an unbroken succession of popes from Peter I to Benedict XVI within the Catholic Church guided by the Holy Spirit through the process of Apostolic Succession.

That is completely inaccurate and you ought to know it...That line is broken in many places, even right at the beginning...Your religion inserted names to fill the gaps without any proof of accuracy whatsoever...

You can say that but you cannot make it true.

Thank you for sharing your insights, dear brother in Christ!

I see that we are of one mind concerning the body of Christ to be discerned in I Cor 11:28-30.

To God be the glory, not man, never man.

Why would He then let people walk away if they simply didn't understand? Yes...Because He knew they wouldn't believe Him anyway...

Seriously, this thread is like a blackberry patch on the fourth of July—wasps, spiders, skeeters, ticks, sweltering heat, unripened sour fruit, nasty thorns crowding everywhere, and a stem here and there loaded with perfect wonderful berries...

Let me guess...You consider yourself to be a Raspberry...

I'm sure it's just lifted from a comic book.

Not only are we being criticized for what we say; we're being criticized for what they think we want to say.

That's right and it constitutes "mind reading"

"We're feelthy papists and cod-snappers or something, and that's what Protestants want to call us and do refer to us as away from Free Republic"

With all due respect that is immature craziness

Yes...Because He knew they wouldn't believe Him anyway...

True and in the past five hundred years He has let millions more walk away. It's very sad that YOPIOS does not provide for anything that exceeds the basic intellect.

They already call us Catholics whatever names they want

can you list some, just from this thread? I can't read every post, but I'd like to see some examples, thanks

Why just this thread?

I don't know if it's come up on this thread yet, but I've seen "MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH" used before as well as, "Synagogue of Satan".

INDEED.

Therein, probably lies some of the fierceness . . .

doggedly insisting on their daffynitions, mangled history, mangled Bibles etc.

INSISTING SO EMPHATICALLY

AND AT SUCH POTENTIAL RISK

THAT

one option amongst several arguably possible options [interpretations of the critical PHRASE (no less)] considered more than plausible by reasonable folks of different persuasions . . .

sounds more than a little foolhardy, to me.

As well as paragon ARROGANCE.

well those are biblical terms found in the bible, yet the full revelation of who that is is yet to be revealed, and the jury is still out. For all we know, that could wind up being Muslims, Catholics, Mormons, or Benny Hinn.
