Who are the Catholics: The Orthodox or The Romanists, or both?

I just witnessed a couple of Orthodox posters get kicked off a "Catholic Caucus" thread. I thought, despite their differences, they had a mutual understanding that each sect was considered "Catholic". Are not the Orthodox considered Catholic? Why do the Romanists get to monopolize the term "Catholic"?

I consider myself to be Catholic being a part of the universal church of Christ. Why should one sect be able to use a universal concept to identify themselves in a caucus thread while other Christian denominations need to use specific qualifiers to identify themselves in a caucus thread?

I don't know that we'll ever fully agree on this.

I understand about humility and Biblically strong meekness and this generation.

I don't mean by "life is a contact sport" that it's all Sparticus etc.

I mean that in the rough and tumble of REAL LIFE NOT CRINGED AND SHRUNK BACK FROM

THERE IS REAL CONTACT--some of it is negative and some of it is positive--but it is REAL--it is not phony.

And because it is real, LIFE CAN COME even of the bruises and bloodshed.

FAITHFUL ARE THE WOUNDS OF A FRIEND but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful. I have found that emphatically true.

It does NOT say, faithful are the gentle carresses of a friend--faithful are the WOUNDS of a friend. That's serious business from life as a contact sport--from living vs cringing from living.

Scripture says that cowards are as lost as homosexuals.

Cringing, whining, wailing, blaming and throwing dust in the air comes more from cringing from life instead of wading into it as the contact sport that it is. I know. I did it several decades.

Some see a certain someone hereon as the most humble person they've ever met and some see him as one of the most arrogant. Same person. Same evidence observed by both . . . why the difference?

It's not only that the Romanists make the most outrageous claims it's also the fact that the Romanists on this forum dominate the discussion in shrill terms.

I suggested to another Romanists that since Free Republic is ostensibly a forum dedicated to the preservation of the ideals of the founding of this country that those religions from which those ideals originally sprang should in some way be recognized in a way that acknowledges those contributions and CONSERVES that acknowledgment.

I'm happy that through Vatican II the Roman Church has moved towards our position. I'm also fine with Romanists being able to speak freely about their beliefs because that is one of the fundamental ideals. I received a freepmail from one of your co-religionists asking that I lock this thread because people were quitting Free Republic because of it. Since I'm not an Administrator on this site I have no authority to lock a thread and why would I want to quench free speech because some people can't accept the free speech of others in opposition to the ideal?

Frankly, if we want to conserve the ideals of the founding of this country then we better have a pretty good idea where those ideals came from and the basis of those ideals.

All that tells me is that we have been told to judge not and for a good reason.

It also tells me that a judgment could be arrived at due to a process called projection.

I'm not asking you to have your beliefs and faith rest on the Early Church Doctors. You believe in a community of believers, correct? That community also includes those who prayed and thought and taught years ago. That includes the Church Doctors and it is good to read them to understand what they taught and how the evolution of our beliefs came and also how they fought early heresies like Arianism, etc. That is analogous to reading Jefferson and understanding how our great nation came to be

Also, The Church Doctors are common across all The Church -- Orthodox, Orientals, Catholics even Lutherans and Anglicans consider the same early Christian Doctors. The only difference would be gnostics or Manicheans who may include Mani or others.
