Statistics released Nov. 24 by the FBI show hate crimes against religious groups increased by 9% from 2007 to 2008.
USA Today reported that in 2008, there 1,519 incidents against people based on their religion, the statistics show.
The figures reveal that while anti-Jewish attacks made up the highest percentage of the attacks (17%), there was an increase in hate crimes against Catholics 75, up from 61 in 2007.
Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, said the increase may be due to the Church becoming more vocal on life issues such as abortion and homosexual unions.
As the Catholic bishops take a stronger stance, he said, it filters down to the laity, and as more traditional Catholics become more vocal, they become targets for those who disagree with them.
Unfortunately, it spills over into violence, he said, adding that its just going to get worse before it gets better.
Ive never seen our country so culturally divided and so polarized, he said. These issues are not going away.
Is is most disappointing to see the number of so called "christians" in this forum who have joined in on these attacks. Their religious leaders have remained silent on these matters.
I agree.
Could it be that the Catholic victims/ statistics reflect Hispanic/Latino criminals on Hispanic/Lationo victims?
move on, nothing is happening here.
Actually, it has NADA to do with victims. It is satanic-influenced hatred against the Church it most fears.
You think Hispanics are attacking other Hispanics because of their religion? Improbable. There are some issues in Mexico with Catholics (sorta) persecuting Protestants (sorta), but like the sorta-Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland, the issue is much more economic and political.
And in Colombia and Peru, Commununist guerillas and drug cartels attack both the Catholic Church and evangelical Christians. This can be compared to some attacks on the Church by Mafia gangs in Italy.
It’s possible that there’s some spillover in these issues to the US, but the likelihood of something like that’s being recorded as “hate crime against Catholics” is pretty slight.
Faggies hate the Catholic Church and its teachings.
Pederast priests were an enemy within and are finally being dealt with.
Faggies also hate the condemnation of homosexuality found in both the Old and New Testaments.
As a result, more than anything else, faggies hate themselves.
I suppose that is aimed at Fundamentalist Protestants, the most liberal of whom makes the most conservative Catholic seem like a screaming red in comparison.
So long as the Catholic Church nurses higher criticism and evolutionism in its bosom all its sound and fury on life issues will be for naught.

Obama Says A Baby Is A Punishment
Obama: If they make a mistake, I dont want them punished with a baby.
Indeed. Many “Christian” churches actually teach their members how to attack Catholics. I attended the Youth gathering in Colorado with JPII and there were many hate-filled hecklers with hateful signs at the entrance trying to influence impressionable teenagers. The stuff the “Christians” spewed was awful.
Thankfully, those who attended were so on fire with the Spirit that it was of no consequence. The officials of Colorado said they had never seen such an orderly, respectful, law-abiding multitude.
I’m always amazed that people spew hate and invective in the name of Christ.
from 61 to 75... is a statistically insignificant sample and I’m Catholic.
There is no wide spread martyrdom for the church.
Some of their religious leaders have counseled the attacks.
(In all seriousness: Well stated. As an ex-Catholic who was born, raised and married in the Catholic Church, when Catholic's drop the nonsense that they're somehow better than other Christians because they believe they're in "unity with the holy spirit" whereas the rest of us are not, then they'll get some sympathy, dare I say support from me.)
Name one.
I don't know why it makes people angry that Roman Catholics can study science and philosophy rationally without shaking their foundations.
Why?
So I can win your sympathy, dare I say your support?
LOL
Folks seek out hobby-horses where they can find them.
Honestly, I think that has more to do with the attacker not being secure in their own faith more than it does anything else. But that's just my opinion.
You're the one who painted themselves in a corner, no one made you do it.
