Time for me to leave FR.
For the past few years I’ve avoided like the plague posting on the religious threads, interesting and educational as they may be. You’d be better off restricting yourself to the political threads.
There is a terrible bias both to Catholics and Mormons that is beyond the pale and not in keeping with anything one would call Christian, as in a follower of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Some reflect poorly on both Christianity and conservatism, and reinforce the worst of both stereotypes.
And, to make matters worse, the Religious Mods are worthless. If you call someone for bigotry the mod will go after you, instead of the very obvious bigot. Or if one ninny decides a political thread is religious (however tenuous the connection) they will run to the mod to block anyone not of the tenuously identified religious group. Oh, without changing the title to warn anyone.
If you stick to the political threads, FR is a great experience. The religious threads not so much.
Don’t leave because of Catholic bashing. When that stuff happens, that’s when FR needs you most. To paraphrase the Bible, what glory is there in promoting your faith to those who already believe? Promote your faith among the skeptics and scoffers - that’s where the real glory is.
I’m very sad to see Judith Anne go, she is an excellent poster with good humor and spirit.
The ant-Catholic hatred is out of control.
I’m not sure why the Religion Forum is the Wild Wild West of Free Republic. Perhaps we can institute some minimum standards of respect for other people’s religions (at least the major ones, lol, Scientology, etc. doesn’t really count).
There is a devoted cadre of vile posters who use the rules of the religion forum where you can’t “make it personal” but you can call other’s religion a cult and every other nasty name they can think of as long as they’re talking about the Catholic Church.
Frankly, it’s an embarrassment and I wonder how many people we lose who decide to never post here because of it.
i thought it was opis... third declension, like lex/legis...
Believe my Judith Anne, I understand your feelings.
The funny thing is in a recent poll Catholics outnumbered every other group by a great deal here on FR.
But we NEED you, please don’t give up.
Maybe take a hiatus from posting on theology.
i am an ex-Catholic... but very Catholic friendly... i've been a Protestant for many years... however, the more i have learned through being a Protestant, and the more i study history, the more i am feeling a call back to Catholicism... i'm not there yet, but i won't be surprised if it happens...
Judith Anne,
You may not remember me, but I pinged you long ago. I told you that every time I saw your screenname, I smiled, because my mother’s name was Judith Anne.
And tonight I learn that you were known as GrannyK? Well, my children called my mother Granny. I’m smiling at that, as well.
Please don’t leave FR. I have always enjoyed your warmth and spirit. Don’t let others drive you away. You will be missed, I promise!
Yikes! I hope "dude" is cool...
It would be a shame if your calm and rational voice left Free Republic.
i’m sorry... i was wrong... it would be opus/operis... and then the plural in the nominative, accusative and vocative is opera! i am studying Latin at this time... slowly but surely... thanks!
Just to show you you are not alone check out:

Don’t you go anywhere. Christmas is coming up and there’s work to do.
Great tag line. And so true.
There is a time to take a break from the religious threads...but you will find this place filled with catholics...and FR is a lot more than the religious threads.
You should stay.
Men and women argue with different styles. One tends to be more emotional while the other tends to be more logical. The internet rewards logic and punishes emotion - sometimes severely.
It is one reason liberals are having such a hard time on the web.
>>You should experience the torment us Amish have to deal with!<<
Yeah, I got hit with a bad Amish computer virus at work. I lost all of my work files. The email was passed on to the rest of my team and many of them also were severely impacted before our IT department could cleanse our system. It was devastating.
Here’s the body of the email that carried the virus:
Thou hast just received the Amish Virus.
As we haveth no technology nor programming experience, this virus worketh on the honour system. Please delete all the files from thy hard drive and manually forward this virus to all on thy mailing list.
We thank thee for thy cooperation.

Then again, there is that scripture about shaking the dust off your feet.
You don’t just stay in the same house attempting to prostheletize the same group of people ad-nausium.

I was just passing along the lessons I was schooled in not that long ago :)
I hope it was less painful than the schooling I got :)
Welcome newbie!
Christians should expect and even welcome persecution. Look at how Christ and his apostles died. If we aren’t facing persecution and hostility, we aren’t Christian.
(Luke 6:22-23)
“”Blessed are you when men hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man.
“Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their fathers treated the prophets.””
(Matthew 5:10-12)
“”Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.””
