Never felt it was necessary. Since the only type of church mentioned in scripture is the local church, I never really felt the need to submit to any “authority” pretending to be greater than that.
Am I to understand that something which is “altogether necessary” is not “absolutely necessary” in Roman Catholic speak?
The catholic or universal church, which (with respect to the internal work of the Spirit and truth of grace) may be called invisible, consists of the whole number of the elect, that have been, are, or shall be gathered into one, under Christ, the head thereof; and is the spouse, the body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
All Christians are members of the catholic church - being a subject of Rome is unnecessary and irrelevant.

“Now, therefore, we declare, say, define, and pronounce that for every human creature it Is altogether necessary for salvation to be subject to the authority of the Roman pontiff.”
Statements like the above occur in most religions in one form or another. That’s why “organized” religion is such a problem for millions of people. Too much “I’m right - you’re wrong. My interpretation/translation is right - yours is wrong. I’m going to heaven - you’re not because you don’t believe the “right” way etc.”
Why do so many religious people not get this?
