Origen was an early Church father who is credited with pushing the Church towards an allegorical interpretation of the Bible.

Yes, I know who Origen was, but that has nothing to do with questioning the wacky theory of modern futurists and their unbiblical views of modern, secular Israel. Raising the issue as you have is merely a red herring.

Hal Lindsey wrote a book, The Road to Holocaust, which contends that the seeds of the holocaust were sown in this doctrine.

Hal Lindsey is a plagiarizing crank. See Hal Lindsey & The Restoration of the Jews by Steve Schlissel, The Legacy of Hatred Continues, A Response to Hal Lindsey's The Road To Holocaust, by Gary DeMar and Peter Leithart, and Dispensationalism in Transition by Ken Gentry among others.

I’ll bite. [However, I don’t have the inclination to follow the Hal Lindsey links as I had come to my conclusions years before Lindsey arrived on the scene.] Exactly what in Revelation leads you to believe that it is not talking about a “modern, secular Israel”?

Far from being a “red herring”, Origen is recognized by many as the father of the doctrines which marginalized Israel and led many to the unbiblical view [yes, I can say that too! :] that the Church inherits the promises to Israel that God has yet to fulfill.
