I’ll bite. [However, I don’t have the inclination to follow the Hal Lindsey links as I had come to my conclusions years before Lindsey arrived on the scene.] Exactly what in Revelation leads you to believe that it is not talking about a “modern, secular Israel”?

Far from being a “red herring”, Origen is recognized by many as the father of the doctrines which marginalized Israel and led many to the unbiblical view [yes, I can say that too! :] that the Church inherits the promises to Israel that God has yet to fulfill.

Everything (along with the rest of the Bible). There is nothing there that can be conclusively pinned on modern Israel.

“Marginalized Israel” in this day and age is largely a futurist fantasy. It is generally used by futurists as a reference to folks who do not agree with the dispensationalist schema. If one has an unbiblical view of Israel, as most futurists do, then everyone looks like an Origen.

RE: Hal Lindsey. Personally, I would not touch his theology with a 144 cubit pole. He's more often wrong than right.
