Mormons Have a Different Belief in Hell - You are Most Likely Not Going There
American Chronicle ^ | April 04, 2009 | David M. Bresnahan

Salt Lake City, Utah – Honorable people throughout the world who are open to religious faith are often discouraged, or confused by incorrect doctrine, according to an Apostle who spoke to the 179th Annual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

One issue has been particularly troubling, according to Elder Quentin L. Cook, a member of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles.

"They have a difficult time reconciling the correct doctrine that we have a loving Father in Heaven and the incorrect doctrine that most of mankind would be doomed to eternal hell," Elder Cook explained to more than 20,000 Latter-day Saints (often referred to as Mormons) gathered in the Conference Center on Temple Square. The conference was broadcast live to the other 13 million members around the world.

He told the story of his great-great-grandfather Phineas Wolcott Cook who was investigating the beliefs of various religions in the early 1800s. He explained that there was one doctrine of concern to him, and that he was often criticized for questioning it.

"I could not believe that the Lord had made a part (of mankind) to be saved and a part to be damned to all eternity," said Phineas in a journal.

Elder Cook pointed out that scholars have the common teachings of many Protestant churches with respect to hell were incorrect. He said the Anglican Church leader and classic scholar, Frederick Farrar, gave lectures at Westminster Abbey and taught that the definition of hell of endless torment and everlasting damnation were wrong because of translation errors from Hebrew and Greek to English in the King James Version of the Bible.

Latter-day Saints believe that the Church of Jesus Christ was restored in 1830 by Joseph Smith, who they believe to be a modern prophet of God.

"At the time Joseph Smith received revelations and organized the Church, the vast majority of churches taught that the Savior´s atonement would not bring about the salvation of most of mankind. The common precept was that a few would be saved and the overwhelming majority would be doomed to endless tortures of the most awful and unspeakable intensity," explained Elder Cook.

"The marvelous doctrine revealed to the Prophet Joseph unveiled to us a plan of salvation that is applicable to all mankind, including those who do not hear of Christ in this life, children who die before the age of accountability and those who have no understanding," he added.

Elder Cook emphasized in his sermon that despite differences with other faiths, the Latter-day Saints refrain from criticism of other Christians who believe differently. "They do much good. They bless mankind. Many help their members learn of the Savior and His teachings," he said.

He also counseled members of the Church to be kind and loving to members of the Church regardless of their level of understanding, level of commitment, or activity. He said that the Savior made it clear that church members are not to judge one another, especially members of their own families. "Our obligation is to love and teach and never give up," he said.

King David was counsel by prophets and after having the light committed adultry, and murdered a man.

He took things that was not sanction by the Lord!

None here have ever took to time to ponder and pray over the scriptrues just react with world yardstick.

Some of Davids wifes were given to him and some he took with out praying and listening to counsel!

I know this goes over many heads so this is all I will say on the subject read the scriptures in prayer.

Resty there are not 3 degrees of glory, when Paul is talking about the “third heaven” he is using a Greek idea.

In Greek thought, there were 3 heavens, but not “heaven” as we think of it.

The celestial, terrestrial and telestial. The telestial is the heaven we see (the lower atmosphere), the terrestrial is the realm of the moon (or the upper atmosphere), the third heaven, or celestial, is the realm of God.

It is a common misconception among Mormons that there are 3 levels to “Heaven”.

King David because of his witness of the Lord will not be saved in the Celestial Kingdom

- - - - - - - - - - -
Resty, How does David’s “witness of the Lord” preclude him from the Celestial Kingdom?

Thus, the idea of “Going to hell,” does not necessarily designate you to an everlasting and eternal torment, although I believe that is reserved for some offenses. In any event, please do not bear false witness (Not specifically you Gator)about one church’s belief when you are completely ignorant about it.

— - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

What offenses allow for eternal torment?

And there are many of us here who WISH we were ignorant of LDS theology, but instead have lived it (some for their entire lives), we are FAR from ignorant, nor are we bearing false witness of it. We are simply telling the truth that the LDS refuses to.

Hey it dosen’t bother me that others do not agree on my faith as all have that freedom to choose according to the dictates of their conscience.

- - - - - - - - - - - - -
Even if that conscience sends you to hell?

Honestly, HOW CAN YOU PUT YOUR ETERNITY in the teachings of people like Joseph Smith and Brigham Young?

Choose Christ, Choose the CROSS.

Sorry Resty, but you are incorrect. I have, and I am sure many others here have taken the time to ponder, pray, read and research the scriptures. And yet we all come to a different conclusion than you, I wonder why that is.

****

If those who read the scriptures as they say they do would know that?

As I said before it was not his sanction wifives it was his indiference to protocal becasue he had to get a blessing from the Lord not just go on his own.

But David covet and acted upon it and than had the women husband killed.

Because of this he lost his blessing to be able to go to CK now he would he had knowledge of the Lord that most did not have and disrespect it.

There is a different to know the world ways of the Lord vs really understanding the language and the ways of the Lord that the Spirit of the Lord teaches.

When much is given much is expected of that being.

Luke 12

47 And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.

48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

D&C 82

2 Nevertheless, there are those among you who have sinned exceedingly; yea, even all of you have sinned; but verily I say unto you, beware from henceforth, and refrain from sin, lest sore judgments fall upon your heads.

3 For of him unto whom much is given much is required; and he who sins against the greater light shall receive the greater condemnation.

4 Ye call upon my name for revelations, and I give them unto you; and inasmuch as ye keep not my sayings, which I give unto you, ye become transgressors; and justice and judgment are the penalty which is affixed unto my law.

The very same David who had the Lords own heart?

The very man who MURDERED a man just to get his WIFE??

Acts 13:22
After removing Saul, he made David their king. He testified concerning him: 'I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.'

Good luck.

She evidently doesn't care that PRESBYTERIANs will go somewhere lower in glory than possible - all because she WILL or CAN not tell what is UNTRUE with that denomination.

So much for Rescue the Perishing!

Have YOU been given the knowledge of the UNTRUTH of PRESBYTERIANism?

Then, according to what you've posted; are REQUIRED to warn others.

Do it.

FR site is a mission field for LDS/Mormons. A clever way to attract wobbly Christians. Jesus came for our salvation. He repeatedly warned us of hell and satan. >P< Smith was certainly clever and pursuasive. Paul is the true Apostle.
