We ‘other “Christians”’ are not the ones who started this fight back in 1820’s when a backwoods rube walked out of the woods and declared all other churches wrong and he had talked to God and seen angels and had found a gold book that only he could translate and if you didn’t believe every word HE said you would be sorry because HE would stand at the door of Heaven and keep everyone out who didn’t believe what HE said.
Whew!

Interesting that mormon leaders have been exceedingly "negative" about Christians for over 150 years, but that is, to mormon FReepers perfectly acceptable, and they themselves are free to continually personally attack other FReepers without consequence.

Interesting that gypjet signed up in August and this is his/her one and only post. Signs of a retread, perhaps?

Awesome work here. You are the best cut-and-paster on FR. You are a credit to all unhappy high brows.

odd, I find him learned, well spoken, and even better intentioned.

Your complaints are unfounded.

Rather, my complaint would be the typical cry if victimhood when introspection is mandated by the content, and subsequently devolving to an unwarranted personal attack

They will not be rewarded for their deeds, as they all know that Christ’s workings do not include an air of superiorority over their peers.

And if that was what was happening I would agree with you, but it is not.

We are called to defend the faith, especially against those who misrepresent Gods word.

What is the more egregious case, a faith that does not see the truth but does not claim the Mantle of Christ, or one that does both? Which is a more dangerous effort put forth by the evil one? Which one demands a more vigious defense?

Just a simple thought put forth by a happily married s called loser with all his teeth...

What I’d like to see is a statistical analysis of the degrees of divergence from actual Bible names shown by Book of Mormon names compared to the degree of divergence from common baby names shown by black American culture’s favorite baby names. You know, the latter want something that sounds unique and maybe African and the author of the former wanted something that sounded foreign and Biblical.

“I don’t understand how this site has become a place to bash Mormons,”

Anger, fear, hatred, it all makes people do ugly things. And why would they have those feelings towards us if they were secure and confident in the truth of their own faith? I am glad to have people who act like that opposed to my faith rather than part of it.

As for the article, is a HUGE straw man. Modalism was not ever part of our theology. It appears the author has taken a hazy understanding of LDS theology on the Godhead and done his best to hammer it around to fit into the categories he is familiar with rather than deal with what it really is.

Such replies prove my point

This is so silly and it shows that the mainstream haven’t been taught by Traditions of men the ways of God.

When the Lord through his priesthood anoints one they are given especially the prophet to speak for God in other words to be the messenger.

This is testified all through the OT and NT

***When the Lord through his priesthood anoints one they are given especially the prophet to speak for God in other words to be the messenger.

The proof is in the pudding. The OT and NT proved themselves to be God’s prophets. J Smith didn’t.

The prophets did miracles. Smith didn’t.

Paul and also Peter were in various jails. God commanded and the chains fell off both and the doors were open.
When Smith was in jail opted for a jail break instead of relying on God. When the wrong group came he realized the jig was up, shot at his attackers and was shot as he tried to jump from the window. If he were a prophet the doors would have opened and he would have walked free righ through those gunning for him.

Jesus could have called on legions of angels to protect him but he didn’t. He knew what his purpose was. None of the prophets of old needed armed guards. They trusted in the Lord God.
Smith had to trust the militia and the Danites, the hand of men and they failed him. Even God didn’t protect this “prophet”. That should tell you something.

No, Smith fails the tests.

As far as I know, you weren’t there in the 1820s. I’m talking now. I wouldn’t EVER say anything bad about your religion. I just expect the same from the people, I consider follow my beliefs since we visit the same site.

“God Himself could not create Himself”

+++++

Is this author saying that God created Himself?

Do you believe that God created Himself?

That’s Silly

If you are using that yardstick remember the Jews do not recognized the NT nor Jesus as the Savior nor John, Matthew, etc.

This kind of thinking is myopic you have no clue the personal encounters that the prophets in their day encounter and if it is anything true to life they to had other sects nipping at their heels and bad mouthing them and turning every hunman error they ever made the worst thing on earth!

“God Himself could not create Himself”

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

THIS IS A MADE UP LINE THAT YOUR AUTHOR SAID JOSEPH SMITH SHOULD HAVE SAID.

ONE OF THE MANY STRAWMAN SAYINGS USED TO KEEP US FROM SEEING WHAT IS REALLY TAUGHT.

Your author’s writing stile is better suited to selling a used lemon of a car the in relaying the truth.

So, God does not protect his “prophets” today? Does he just throw them out there and say “ Now go preach but you are on your own!”

Jesus never had an armed guard to protect him. Neither Paul or Peter. None of the OT prophets had armed guards. God was their protection.
Why did Smith need militias and Danites? Even the mighty arms of men failed to protect him. Was God too weak to protect his “prophet”?

A very scholarly approach.
Not personal, but theological.
Bookmarked!

They also have a good video on the Book of Abraham.

All you have to do is read Smith’s words for yourself. It would appear Smith never said anything good about other CHRISTIANS but spent his time tooting his own horn.

If Smith and his “followers” Can not take the heat they had better stay out of the kitchen.

What's up with the increase in anti Mormon threads lately? Striking during a lull in prop 8 news?

Hope everyone's holidays were bright. Happy New Year.

Cheers all.
