I'm new to FR, and I've encountered some posts that I'm having a hard time understanding. I figured I'd go right to the source and try to get some clarification. The problem I'm having relates to those posters who are concerned that Obama is the anti-christ, which, if I'm understanding correctly, is an evil leader who ushers in the end of the world. I also understand that when the world is getting ready to end, evangelical Christians believe that the faithful among them will be sucked up into heaven by god to spend eternity by his side.
My question is this: everyone posting about Obama being the anti-christ seems very concerned about the idea, yet one would assume that if they literally believe that such a thing is possible, then they're fairly confident they'll be raptured up as soon as all the trouble starts. After all, no one picks a religion that has them losing in the end (except possibly Norse polytheism.) Why are you / they so worried about it? If you're going to be raptured, what's the issue? I'm not a fundamentalist Christian, so this seems sort of counter-intuitive to me. One would think anyone who believes in the rapture would be VERY excited for it, as they get to spend the rest of eternity in heaven.
Lastly, due to the...hostility...sometimes encountered here, let me clarify. I'm NOT trolling, I'm just curious. If I've somehow offended you, just ignore the post instead of getting butthurt in the comments. Finally, for the inevitable questions of my patriotism, I'm an Army paratrooper with two combat tours to Afghanistan, so before you mouth off about how I'm a bad American, go fight in Afghanistan for a few years. That said, don't ignore the topic, explain what I'm missing: if you're going to be raptured, why be concerned about the antichrist?
A good example, without having to inject faith, is the 1930’s. A lot of people got out of Europe before Hitler got too much power, but there were many left behind. To keep it brief, bad things happened to them.
Good troops always worry about leaving behind their own, for whatever reason.
That’s the closest I can come, without adding faith into the mix.
PS- I think if BHO is going to be the anti-Christ, he’s going to need a bigger teleprompter. IMHO he’s just the puppet.

He's going to do his best to destroy our culture. Civility, decorum, English, religiosity, morality, and decency will all need to be done away with to usher in "Change". We must include the tastes of even the most vulgar so we'll all feel inclusive.

I don't think most people think Obama is really the anti-christ, although the number of people referring to him in Messiah like terms is really unprecedented. That Farakhan of the nation of Islam referred to Obama as the Messiah, is especially concerning. And there are some parallels to the scriptural anti-Christ. The way the whole world is excited about this guy very much matches the way scripture describes the anti-Christ. In fact scripture says "a strong delusion" will occur that would cause even the elect (true Christians) to be fooled were it possible. Fortunately, it appears God will keep us from being fooled.

I don’t question your patriotism. I question your cognitive abilities. There may be a few here who really think Obama is the anti-Christ but it hardly represents FR, although you seeam to hope so. I’ve never seen a thread on it. You sound like a lib blogger/journalist trolling for material to tar this forum.

Why don’t you ask yourself why the mainstream media has been going through Sarah Palin’s garbage to try to destroy a hardworking, selfmade woman, and never even asked who Obama really was, who his friends are, who made him, who he hung out with, never released his medical records, etc?

I doubt what you read was a religious statement. We’re worried about our Republic and how Obama’s tax-and-spend and social policies will destroy it.

I personally fall into group 3. Maybe I have not studied The Revelation deeply enough yet, as I am not a huge end-of-the-worlder. My take is simple: since Jesus himself said he does not know the hour, I just follow his advice and try my best to live each day as if it will be the second coming.
Good post, Niehuru. Racism in America would be nothing more than a historical footnote if not for the fact that minorities, and too many blacks in particular, choose to cling to their own racist views.
Obama played that race card again and again. And when you see the multitude of black voters that came out to vote for Obama simply because he’s black....well, that is Racism in action right there.
The timing of when the Church will be removed from the earth is a different question from whether or not Obama is “the one.” The latter is a significantly more important issue about which to to be spiritually discerning. The former will simply follow God’s calendar - and not something the Church should divide over.

I think the answer is that relatively few posters here literally believe with certainty that 1) Obama is the “anti-Christ”, and 2) that the “rapture” is just around the corner. Even those few who do, presumably still feel an obligation to actively oppose the “anti-Christ” if they think they’ve identified him. Failure to do so would presumably endanger their ticket to the “rapture”.
Personally, I don’t believe in either of these things at all, much less that one is already upon us and the other is about to be.
