Is it sacreligious to get a tattoo of a Cross?

I was thinking about getting a tattoo of a Byzantine style 3 bar Cross on my upper right arm. I am wondering if that would be considered wrong or somehow sacreligious. Please let me know your opinion because I cannot find any conclusive answer.

If Jesus was shot to death, would you have a tattoo of a gun?

Just wondering...

If you’re doing it with intent to offend, then yes. Otherwise, no.

jmo.

No, but why not just buy one and wear it? That way, if you change your mind later, you can just take it off. With a tatoo, you would have to spend a lot of money and endure a lot of pain to get it removed. Also, I have to wonder what it would look like when you are 80. ;)

I guess if you don’t plan to move to Muslim England it would be o.k.

What is your heart’s intention? That is what matters. Everything else is man’s legalism.

Is it sacreligious to get a tattoo of a Cross?

Probably not. Now a Muslim getting a Porky Pig tattoo, that's sacreligious.

I guess is depends on your religious alignment. As a fallen-away Catholic, I seem to recall, between numerous raps on the knuckles with a brass-tipped ruler, that you were to treat your body as a temple of the Holy Spirit, which would make tats of any kind a no-no.

I recently had a Latin style cross on my upper arm (my only tattoo) to commemorate my pilgrimage to St Peters and the Vatican, I wanted to mark myself as a Christian.
If it is done in the right spirit - I would hope the Lord will understand.

Does the New Testament even make comment on tattoos? Does it say they are forbidden?

I know a few Iraqi Christians who have cross tattoos. They have them in places where they can be covered such as their upper arms. I've had three of them show me their cross tattoos when they've seen the little cross I wear around my neck.

Couldn’t you decorate a temple?

I don’t think it’s wrong at all. I’m not sure of your motive, but if it’s to take a stand for Christ and be a witness for Him by bearing a permanent cross on your body, I say “go for it!” Jesus commended the woman, who in an act of worship, poured expensive perfume on his feet while others stood by and criticized her for the excessive cost. If your act getting a mark on your body is to identify yourself with Christ, I would think this would make His heart happy.

permanent reminder of a temporary feeling.

why not paint one on for a year or so and see how it goes?

If you want a cross that is fine. I might be offended by a crescent though.
