FLDS Parents Could Face Charges for Abandoning their "Lost Boys"
KCPW News ^ | February 14, 2008

Posted on 02/22/2008 9:11:12 AM PST by Zakeet

They're called the "Lost Boys," the teenagers kicked out of their homes and communities by leaders of the polygamist Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to ensure there's an ample supply of single, young women who will one day become plural wives. Representative Lorie Fowlke (R-Orem), is running a bill to make this abandonment a felony.

"Estimates are that we've had more than 1,000 children - primarily in southern Utah - thrown out of their homes," Fowlke says. "What we were trying to do with this bill is criminalize this behavior and send a message to this community that they can't just throw away their children."

H.B. 23 adds child abandonment to the definition of child abuse, and makes it a felony crime. It also adds an enhancement if a parent or organization benefits from the child's abandonment to further an illegal enterprise, such as polygamy. This is the case with the FLDS church, says Roger Hoole, a lawyer who represents some of the displaced young men and sits on the board for the Utah Association for Justice. He says the church benefits from kicking out young men who would compete for plural wives. This, he says, has devastating consequences.

"There's a huge impact that's coming, like a tsunami, that's going to hit the state of Utah, when these boys get a little older and realize what has happened to them and get angry," Hoole says. "There's a real problem here."

Fowlke's bill gained unanimous support in a Senate committee this morning, and now heads to the full Senate for consideration.

Right, McConkie was an Apostle, and did and taught much good, but he wasn’t representing doctrine in SOME of his opinions.

From which edition are you posting the “black Satan Army” stuff.

Hmmmmmm???

Not doctrine, no matter how many times you hit ‘control v’

Jesus refused to debate with Pharisees.

I think that you are confused and/or misinformed...Have you read the Gospels?

Jesus had some incredible exchanges with the Pharisees in which it was obvious to all that Jesus had the Truth.

I love the one exchange in which the Pharisees were trying to "bait" Jesus by trying to catch Him working on the Sabbath (violating the law).

At the same time the Pharisees were trying to catch Jesus working on the Sabbath, they were plotting (on the Sabbath) to kill Him.

Because Jesus was God, He knew of their plotting and when they approached Him about allegations of working on the Sabbath because He had healed a man, Jesus asked the Pharisees, "Which is lawful on the Sabbath, to do good or to do evil, to save a life or kill?" (Mark 3:1-6)

The Pharisees itentions and lack of truth were brilliantly exposed!

Jesus had many exchanges with the Pharisees, he countered with Truth and won every time!

Jesus even quoted Scripture to Satan in an exchange prompted by Satan.

Again, Jesus took on the Pharisees and won every time. You should read about it...The stories are quite marvelous and compelling!

He frequently answered their questions with questions. He did not debate. He usually diverted. He knew their intentions, just as I know yours. It is not worth my time to converse with you. There. You can have the last word.

My origional post to you is back at #1226, go back there and deal with it.

Right, McConkie was an Apostle, and did and taught much good, but he wasn’t representing doctrine in SOME of his opinions.

Facts are facts, later editions of MD were released with the GA's supervision and blessing. Therefore all doctrinal related items in MD were approved by the GA. Not a hard concept to grasp.

From which edition are you posting the “black Satan Army” stuff.

You need to back up and actually READ posts to you. I did not bring that issue up at all.

"It is my province to teach to the Church what the doctrine is. It is your province to echo what I say or to remain silent." [Bruce McConkie]

Do you not agree with McConkie's above-statement?

Do you really think that these are the only Mormon men that taught, relating to pre-existence, that Negroes were aiding Satan (by aiding Satan, they were part of his army...sorry, if you don't like the wording)?

Would you like more quotes?

And...again, to the bigger issue, which was the point of Mormon racism being one of Smith's fruits...Smith clearly taught racist teachings related to black people and other Mormon prophets followed. Do you disagree with this historical fact?

It’s not a run away tactic, it’s simply not a run into tactic. Big difference

Oh...so you are going to answer the simple/direct questions, now?

In fact 7, you started the whole thing off here

Let’s just do one, and a really bad one at that... - Mormon racism - black men were Satan’s army in Heaven

to which I replied in post #1276:

No worthless redirecting, I didn't bring that issue up. Go back to #1262 and address those issues that I did bring up. Thanks.

So go to 1262 and address that.

The wording isn’t even yours, the black satan army stuff is from some cut and past anti site, I doubt you even know where it originates. It’s certainly not anything an LDS figure has ever said.

Let me ask you this... do you even believe in the pre-existence at all, (We all lived with God before this life) I know that isn’t an accepted doctrine of evangelical thought?

Pearls/swine.

That is the ultimate in a combination dodge/insult.

What you are saying by that is that you supposedly have all these wonderful pearls in your possession and that reason you refuse to answer any questions about what these wonderful pearls are is because the person who asking you is a swine.

And it is the questioners who are always accused of acting in a judgmental or un-Christian manner. Irony.

Frankly Lady esq, if you don't want to cast your precious pearls before those you consider swine, then just don't bother to post anything on these threads again.

You have made points about your church and its beliefs and your boilerplate response to those who challenge those beliefs is to simply insult them and accuse them of being pigs and refuse to answer the questions because you don't answer questions from pigs.

Un-believable. No, I take that back. Actually it isn't unbelievable. It is expected. It is the modus operandi of your Church. Hide the pearls.

But they aren't pearls, are they? You don't hide them from the "pigs" because they are wonderful, you hide them because they are embarrassing. They are not pearls...they are nothing more than dried rabbit droppings.

Discuss the issues all you want, but do NOT make it personal.

You mean like this one:

Glad to know there is always an idiot out there that thinks he knows what I think.

The difference is...Jesus countered with the Truth and His response was compelling...Many people believed.

You have failed to answer direct questions and when you have responded it has been with inaccurate information, which is not compelling.

So...what is my intention, lady lawyer?

In case you don't answer, my intention is to get you to answer specific questions and thereby reveal your lack of the truth.

By your partial answers, inaccurate answers, and non-answers, I think that you have that figured out, and know, that your best strategy is to keep silent (so that others won't see more of the lack of truth in your response).

That reminds me of the time we were eating pinenuts out in the barn with our cityfied cousin. We taught her how to crack the shell between her teeth to get the "pearl" inside. She thought they were a great yummy treat. When we ran out of nuts, she asked us where she could get more.

"We keep the pinenuts out under the rabbit pen," we said with a grin. Kinda reminds me of Mormonism.

Okay...lets do a quid pro quo.

I will specifically answer this question, if you specifically answer one of my questions?

Deal?
