Although Mormon theology contains some elements of Christianity it is not Christian theology nor does it reflect Christian understandings of the nature of God and Christ. In addition nor does it reflect Christian history. Indeed it is diametrically opposed to what is known historically about Christianity. Joseph Smith said to his followers ““Ye are the children of Israel and of the seed of Abraham.”” Mormonism can best be understood as a fourth Abrahamic faith.

Joseph Smith was also a defrocked Freemason who was thrown out for trying to make Freemasonry into a religion. Many of the secret Mormon rituals parrot the Masonic rituals, so I have been told.

I thought Maroni was a kind of spaghetti.

Seriously, I don’t give a tinker’s damn if Romney believes all this stuff or not. All I care about is his ability to serve as an effective leader and his personal morality and his views on the issues. I think he is a capable leader with a proven track record as such and a man of outstanding personal morality.

Although he is not my first choice on the issues as I support Hunter and Thompson, I would most vigorously campaign for him gainst any of the fruitcakes sitting in the Mad Baker’s Shop called the Democrat Party.

When I was doing my undergraduate work, I spent summers working on a farm. This thread reminds of a machine I used to pull across the fields. It was called a manure spreader. On the bed of the contraption was a chain rack that kept moving the manure to the back of the bed and into a string of propellers across the end of the bed that threw the manure backwards all over the field. Amazing machine. Very effective.

Another thought that came to my mind was that I am watching a replay of the very forces (admittedly a milder form) that murdered Joseph Smith and drove the Mormons into the wilderness back in the mid nineteenth century. Where is the good will, forgiveness, and tolerance that is supposed to be the hallmark of Christianity?

And finally, the thought came to me that I am seeing the demise of the Republican party. The Clinton machine is quietly (all constituencies working in relative harmony) laying the foundation for a win in ‘08. If they win in ‘08 it will dramatically change this country more strongly into the direction of amoral, highly taxed, big government socialism. But here we are in one gigantic display of ignorance and intolerance. “Your ancestors were more evil than my ancestors.” “Your doctrine is not as pure as my doctrine.” “Your leaders were whores.” “No, your leaders are the anti-Christ.”

Where to begin?
I think I will go for a walk and enjoy the beautiful day.

Jim, isn't there some sort of theological battle board far away from FR where the churchies can all meet up to duke it out and label one another heretics?

I thought that FR was intended for discussion of conservative thought. This thread isn't news, a current event, political in nature, or anything else other than the O.K. Corral for theological prize-fighters.

Perhaps we ought to get back to the days when FR required topical discussions from a legitimate source rather than a superstitious glurge battle based upon the ramblings from someone's blog site.

In 1829 Smith and his friend baptized each other and were visited, in his account, by John the Baptist who conferred on them both the Priesthood of Aaron.

whoa Whoa WHOA!!!

They baptised EACH other??!!??

BEFORE they were 'authorized' to do so??

I believe there are true Christians (though in error) amongst the members of the LDS, and other “Mormon” denominations, just as there are in other false churches. We can’t judge the individual’s salvation through the Mystery of Christ, but the church as an institution is an obvious fraud perpetrated by a false prophet/charlatan and is not in itself Christian.

Only a small handful of Smith’s followers were allowed to see the plates. Smith published his translation in 1830 and the angel Moroni subsequently took the plates back.

Isn't that convenient?

Some Moroni angel stole the proof that this isn't a cult.

Very nice, very pat.

Funny how they left out the part about the Gov of Missouri issuing the infamous extermination order.

Am I to assume the author considers Islam to be an Abrahamic faith? Both Christin=ans and Jews accept the bible, Muslims do not.
