Here is a response from my pastor after I sent him this thread. Also, this week, here in Iowa a judge decided he had the power to change Iowa's law defining marriage as between a man and a woman. My pastor's response also combines his reaction to this ruling with his feelings with what he read on this thread.

"Stuff like this makes me wonder if I woke up in a different world this morning, or if the nightmare is just continuing.

This isn't just an LCMS vs. ELCA thing. Sad to say, there are people in our own Synod who won't quit (or go away) until women are ordained, etc. The LCMS is where we are, and the best we have to work with. But there isn't enough consistency among our congregations to paint with a broad brush. In any given community, liberal ELCA people might be completely comfortable with the theology and practice of their local LCMS church. Any such church, however, is not faithfully preaching the Word of God in a manner faithful to the Lutheran Confessions.

One's god is whatever one wants him to be. One's Jesus is however one chooses him, or her, to be. Marriage apparently is whatever anyone wants it to be. Why stop at same sex? Why not minor children of the same or opposite sex? Why not animals? Why not a lamppost? There is no end to where evil can go when it is left unchecked. And in our society, where we deny the authority of God, who has the authority to check it and say enough is enough?

God is what we make him. But God is the One who made us. Jesus is whatever we imagine. But Jesus is the God-Man (not god-angel, not god-woman). God exalts nations, and brings them down. God exalts people, and brings them down. The Day of the Lord is coming, and it is going to be bloody. And Jesus won't be asking their opinions before He slaughters them.

I'm not mincing words, here. It makes me angry. My anger is inconsequential. Yahweh's anger is not.

The Lord is with you, even in the midst of this crooked, perverse generation.

Pastor"

It is not a good week for faithful Christians in Iowa. “Where the Lord builds his church, there the devil sets up a chapel”, Luther said. I would like to believe that part of the setting up of our Lord’s church is the fact that the Iowa chapter of STS is one of the fastest growing, and, in fact, had the most new subscriptions to the Rule.

It is no wonder then that Iowa is ground zero in this latest battle for the sanctity of Marriage as God created that blessed institution.

Indeed, the problem isn’t just with the the ELCA or the ECUSA, it is all of western Christendom. There are many Catholics who are just as upset as we are.

A Freepr I used to talk with a lot (who has dropped off posting a bit) said that there was an effort to infiltrate the various Western Churches, and the current chaos is the result.
