18. Make the baptism pool and surrounding area beautiful and inviting and non-threatening.
One of the ways of looking at baptism (per Michael Horton, following probably Meredith Kline) is as a covenant ratification ceremony involving a symbolic ordeal. "As many of you as were baptised into Christ Jesus were baptised into his death."
Covenant baptism is about God’s promises to us, which is why Christian parents can (and should) have their babies baptized—as again, it’s about God’s promises to his people “to you and your children” to quote Peter in Acts 2.
Dispensational/believers’ baptism tends to be all about the individual’s promise to God...the focus is on the person, and his/her promises—it really does tend to be human focused—closely listen next time you’re at a believer’s (adult) baptism.
All Christians should be baptised, and if they wait until they make a decision for Christ, all well and good. However, baptism really should focus on what God has promised us, not what I promise to Him.
NOne of that death stuff now, it's supposed to be a fun occasion! Balloons anyone?
