there is no denying that the RCC consolidated it's grip on state power, in western Europe, by attempting to destroy all other Christian Churches that emerged. It was only after the Reformation and religious wars had ended that state power was not used to force Christians to comply with one Church's dictates.

Some of the Christians persecuted by the RCC were:

The Paulicians
The Albigenses
The Paterines
The Petrobrussians
The Henricians
The Arnoldists
The Hussites
The Waldenses
The Annabaptists

Amen. Don't forget the Huguenots...

'YOUR BEST LIFE NOW'?
Not On This Day In History

It is simply a fact of history, as you rightly note, that the RCC used force and terror to compel belief, while the Reformation relied on the "Scriptures and the power of God."

"Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God" -- Ephesians 6:14-17

We’re going to have to have a “Sides” thread.

I’ve lost track of who’s on whose side.

And the arguments in which who is with whom.

“Which side are you on?” .... whaddayathink :>)

And all that persecution could have been avoided had they simply chosen to remain illiterate --- Biblically illiterate.

Actually, Dr. E, if you read the motives and the reasons behind the flocking of the German, and then the English and other European nobles to the Reformation was power, pure and simple.

They wanted local control bereft of what they saw as an interfering temporal ruler in Rome.
