IMHO, I don’t think that many of the European bishops are tuned in to Whispers, so I don’t think that Rocco’s commentary and quotes have given them any “ammo,” so to speak. I think that their preemptive attacks are tied to the fact that the general release is tomorrow and they are trying to mold public discussion on the document’s contents to suit their own predjudices and beliefs.
In other words, I think that bishops, priests and others (self-proclaimed Jewish leaders, for example, seem particularly concerned with a word that is not even found in the 1962 - i.e. “official” - Missal of the traditional Mass) who are negatively predisposed to anything that reeks pre-1970, have launched a concerted effort in the days before the release of the MP, to shape the public discourse on (and, they hope, the public’s reaction and reception to) the Holy Father’s decision.

Yes, that's definitely what they're trying to do. It's interesting, as I pointed out on another thread, that of course they're doing exactly what the Pope told them not to do (that is, react with disobedience and bad faith and stir up dissension).
