Blair 'to be Roman Catholic'
The Sun ^ | May 17, 2007 | TONY BONNICI

TONY Blair is set to become a Roman Catholic when he quits as Prime Minister, it was claimed last night.

Father Michael Steed — who holds regular services in Downing Street — is said to have revealed Mr Blair’s plans to friends at a recent memorial service.

Although the Premier is an Anglican, his wife Cherie and his four children are Catholics. Last night the priest, who has helped several prominent politicians and aristocrats to convert, refused to deny the rumours.

Fr Steed said: “Mr Blair’s been going to Mass every Sunday.

“He goes on his own when he is abroad, not just when he is with his wife and children.”

But the priest added he did not know whether Mr Blair will be “formally” received into the Catholic church.

If the PM were to become a Roman Catholic, then he would have to take part in a ceremony called the rite of Christian initiation for adults, be confirmed and also take Holy Communion.

A Downing Street spokeswoman last night said they were unaware of the rumours. She said: “This story is always circulating in one form or another. The PM remains a member of the Church of England.”

Mr Blair has announced he will stand down as Prime Minister on June 27.

But the PM has always been reluctant to talk about his religious beliefs.

His former communications chief Alastair Campbell once said: “We don’t do God.”

How convenient...When he didn’t stand up for the Church’s rights a couple months ago, but now he want’s to convert? For what? To mock our Pope with the rest of the CINO polititians out there? Yeah, we could really one more.

Hey thanks for posting that, I had no idea that was a law.

Okay how about this: What if the prince became Catholic? would he have to abdicate the throne?

I left the Catholic Church last year and became a Protestant.

Under current law, yes.

Testy testy. He can’t be catholic as Prime Minister. He has been going to mass every Sunday without anybody noticing until one month before he leaves office. Does this sound like someone who is being convenient? Just answer me this ole wise one - what is he getting out of it now???? Can’t wait for this.

Did anyone know what Judas wanted to "get out of it" when he came on board? No, we found out later though. What the heck does any of the multitude of these pro-abort, pro-gay marriage, CINO politicians get out of it for that matter?

In any event it's always about what you give, and Blair had the chance to do the right thing, and protect the Church, and he refused. I mean, even if he were going to become a Jew, he still should have stood up the Church -- any and all of them. What would he have had to loose..As noted, he's on his way out anyways, Right? I'm just sayin', it all doesn't jive.

(And, BTW, I'm so sick of all of these luke-warm catholics, like him and his wife, Nancy Pelosi et al., persistently being described as "devout" in the media.)

Not to at all imply that Pelosi could be considered a luke warm Catholic...she’s colder than 0 Kelvin...bad statement on my part
