Ellis Island was the immigrant processing place. Riker's Island is the New York City jail.

OOOPS! Nice catch. Now you know that my last job involved hauling a (very nice, totally clueless) bad guy from NY to Virginia on an extradition. And we waited all morning in the Brooklyn court-rrom with the hardest most uncomfortable pews I have EVER sat in. It can't have been an accident. There is somebody somewhere who knows how to make pews PAINFUL!

Okay. Now for the cover-up. Of COURSE I meant Rikers, as in "they will not turn you loose until you have paid the last penny". (dusting self off, looking around to see if anybody noticed)

But even in Scripture Purgatory is compared to getting out of prison. Maybe the first island was an OK reference. Prison is a place of redemption of paying for one's sins. Isn't Purgatory similar?

Although I agree there is not much HOPE in prison. Ellis Island is a better choice there.
