So you see the all of the Hail Mary part is from Scripture and I know that the first line of the second part is from the same passage. I'm sure the rest is in Scripture, I just can't pull it off my floppy disk (brain) right now. Blessings! Aren't you glad you asked?
Now, the literal translation: [Luke 1:41-42] And it came to pass, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe did leap in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and spake out with a loud voice, and said, 'Blessed [art] thou among women, and blessed [is] the fruit of thy womb.
This is how you folks end up making a goddess out of her, by embellishing what the scriptures actually say. She is referred to as blessed....not "most" blessed. She was a very ordinary, young Jewish girl. Anything other than that....our Saviour would have had an unfair advantage at human existence....and his sacrifice would therefore be meaningless.
