Vescere bracis meis - Eat my shorts (Classic!)

Cimictus = The Beatles? I'd think that the plural for that would be Cimictes, no? Which declension is it?

I'm off to say my penance for the week -- really that's what the priest gave me. Haven't had that happen in a long time.

See you all later.

Ah... Code! I love Code!

Use your Catholic "decoder" ring to find the "secret" message!

We aren't talking about much of anything... Just killing time before lunch!

As much as I love RC vs P debate, I don't know where to start on this thread.

I agree with most of what the writing says though.

No, they do not have weak belief in the Bible, but they do recognize that Bible only Protestants have conflicting beliefs about Biblical passages and there is therefore a need for an authority to settle those disagreements.

I would especially recommend Dave Armstrong on the net. He is a very good writer and his web page is full of information.

Catholicism must be viewed through its official teachings, not through the eyes of Catholics themselves, even clergy. Unfortunately, they run the gamut from knowledgeable to ignorant, sincere to hypocritical. We all fall short of the glory of God, but the truth is out there.

I'll pray for your soul. I believe you are being so anti-Catholic because you need prayers and help.

The only recorded request in all of scripture by a Queen Mother of the King, and the one who had approached the Queen Mother with the request is summarily executed by the King. What lesson can be learned from that???

Clearly from the text, sola scriptura, Solomon was very much predisposed to grant the request ... until he found out what it was. So the problem wasn't with the request coming through the Queen Mother, but with the request itself.

Adonijah was executed because the request was tantamount to high treason.

So I suppose the lesson that can be learned is, "Don't make treasonous requests of the King, even if you make them through His Mother.

I believe that between the Greek and Aramic, that many were called brothers and sisters, even when they were cousins. Similar to us using the term relative.

There's a similar situation between an uncle and nephew in the old testament (using brother), but I seem to have forgotten it from yesterday.

Cool link, thanks!

Interesting how it disproves the popular Protestant notion that the title of Mary "Mother of God" wasn't around until after Constantine! ;-)

I loved Latin. I should have majored in it when I could. I'd be telling high school students at this very moment that this translation of Ovid looks a lot like a "pony" I can find in any bookstore!

Try this for Lent:

Catalan Pie

1 1/2 cups white flour
1/2 cup corn meal
l tsp sugar
salt and pepper
l packet of yeast
olive oil
1/4 lb onions skinned and chopped
2 garlic cloves crushed
chilli powder to taste, probably two to three tablespoons
l lb. tomatoes, but this time of year use canned diced no seasoning
1/2 lb zucchini rough chopped
3 tsp of raisins or to taste
2 tsp of capers
1/4 cup pecans or whatever you have on hand or prefer.
3 hard boiled eggs rough chopped (Can omit for Orthodox)

Mix flour, cornmeal, sugar and l tsp of salt, and yeast together. Add 2/3 cup of warm water. Mix together adding more water if needed to make a dough. Turn it out on a floured board and knead 5 to 10 minutes until elastic. Place in a bowl rubbed with olive oil. Allow to rise in a warm place until doubled.

Heat olive oil in a pan and add onions, garlic, chili powder and cook for 5 minutes stirring all the while. Add tomatoes and zucchini and cook until excess moisture evaporates. Add the raisins, capers and nuts and eggs (Or omit eggs). Cool and season to taste with salt and pepper.

Roll half the dough into a rectangle about 13x10". Place on an oiled baking sheet and cover with the filling spread almost to the edges. Roll out the remaining dough to the same size and place on top of the filling. Crimp and seal the edges.

Brush the pie with oil olive. Make some slits in the crust for steam and bake at 450 for 20 minutes and lightly browned..

This is good warm and wonderful the next day cold for lunch.
