Well, I have to be honest here. After the first two kids we decided to just let God take over and gave up on the charting. A few times over the years we would abstain for one reason or another but I haven't recorded my temperature in years! The other signs were easier for me to read, anyway.

I've never tried the ecological breastfeeding, either. My kids are lucky to have had any at all! LOL!

"I'm pretty sure I'm living proof that these kinds of methods don't work."

I'm entirely sure you are living proof that you have done absolutely no research on the topic. That NFP, when properly performed, is as effective as artificial means of birth control has been definitively established for quite some time. Back in the 1970's, what is now called the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services commissioned a study comparing the effectiveness of NFP (when taught by trained instructors and the rules actually followed) with the effectivness of artificial contraception. The result was that, not only was NFP just as effective as artificial means, there were no failures of the method when it was properly applied (that is, no woman who was using the NFP method evaluated in the study got pregnant if she was doing everything as told). Studies since that time have been in agreement with this study.

Here's the citation, in case you decide to educate yourself:

Wade ME, McCarthy P, et al. A random prospective study of the use-effectiveness of two methods of natural family planning. Am J Ob and Gyn. 141:4 (15 Oct 1981) 368-376.

But aren't you glad they didn't have an abortion?

I'm kind of the same way. I am already to go again after less than two months postpartum. So then I do use charts and temp checks.

My youngest is almost two and I stopped charting last summer. I still would like to wait a bit longer, but it would be fine if baby number three showed up any time now. So I am not taking it as seriously now. It's nice to have that kind of freedom.

I sure am. As a former fetus, I'm against abortion.

You are simply upset that you have been shown to be intellectually unarmed. Toodles.

Yeah, but I bet you're still a fetus at heart.

We love the freedom. Of course, many of our friends have 10 kids so we're under pressure to "catch up". Ha! I don't think we'll make it that far. We started late and a few miscarriages put us behind.

My mom, who has six children living, two miscarriages, had expressed the same sentiment before. It is a very good reminder.

I know for a fact I'm a diaphragm baby. None of these things work 100%.

Excellent points. I think every female past puberty should at least record her menstruation days, because the menstrual cycle is such a sensitive indicator of what's going on with the body as a whole.

If a woman find she has cycle irregularities or other unpleasant symptoms, then recording temperature would be useful, as well. I discovered I had low thyroid function because my temperatures were so low ... a little kelp supplement worked miracles!
