That's a lot of hate.

He is against Christmas, too, as found later in the thread.

You don't celebrate Christmas? Are you one of those that is part of the ACLU and suing everywhere to get rid of Christmas? I can't believe that you would be on FREEPERS if you are an ACLU lover. This is a conservative website. Please read the missions statement.

We need to lovingly knock some sense into Douglas and his ilk. They just don't get it: We are free. Legalism is dead. Liberalism is dead. Long live the Gospel, which is neither!

If you would read your Scripture, you would see that God gives us CHRISTIAN LIBERTY on whether or not to celebrate holidays.

Exactly.

It seems even a casual reading of Romans 14 should put to rest much of what I'm seeing in this thread.

there are millions of concerned people who think that Halloween is a holiday that subverts their faith...and you should respect that.

Please prove your statistical statement. I would like the study done on your findings of these conclusions and numbers.

Please prove your statistical statement.

Whether or not there are "millions" doesn't matter. We should respect them. They should respect us.

Halloween, All Soul's Day or All Saint's Day are not one of the holy days God created and cannot be made holy by man.

You seriously are sick! Catholics DO believe All Saint's Day and All Soul's Day. Thanks a lot for subjecting your ridiculous ways onto religions that you don't agree with. For your information, you spew King James' lines which many religions don't follow. So why you are putting down other religions or making strange statements is beyond me.

Birthdays were observed and noted in the bible because the ages of many biblical figures are recorded. Thus I don't havea a problem with it.

Wow! Thanks for your blessing on celebrating our birthdays. How kind of you. I can't believe how arrogant you are to tell your fellow FREEPERS what they can and can't observe. You really are very scary and I truly believe that you are definitely from DU because I have never ran into a FREEPER that has acted like you. No other FREEPER ever told other FREEPERS that they were allowed to celebrate their birthdays because as you state "I don't have a problem with it". Ugh!!!!

Oops. I should have said dislike. These posts really make me mad though. The Holidays are being taken over by the liberals and those on FREEPERS who are acting like conservatives and taking all things conservative out of holidays and I am so sick of it. We will be going through these until January. Ugh!!!!

I can't believe this comes up EVERY year. People need to get a sense of perspective

Same way people complain about Christmas trees at Christmas, overpopulation on Mother's day, or Harry Potter when a new HP book or movie comes out.

I believe that I am just going to have to skip over the holiday threads. I get too crazy! It's just that I remember how much fun it was during the holidays and nobody ever ruined it by making silly PC comments about them and want them eliminated and that is what is happening. My children might be the last generation that will ever be able to celebrate these holidays if we continue to allow folks to destroy them. That is why I get so emotional about these threads.

You need to learn the legal concept of "De Minimus" Your concerns about halloween and Harry Potter are, to be as kind as I can be, absurd.

But, to each his own, I'm really glad my parents never made a fuss about halloween and I have bought all the Harry Potter books for my kids, not a satanist among us.

I still am curious as to whether you put any limits on what type fun you sanction for your kids.

KKK outfits? Holocaust jokes? Fake napalm burns?

No dear, and how sweet of you to ask. The last time my youngest went out she was dressed as a Disney character I believe, is that too godless for your prim little mindset?

To the pure, all things are pure. To the person over whom the demonic holds no sway - since there is no reason to fear Him who Christ overcame - Halloween constitutes nothing more than an excuse for candy. (Which is dangerous only to the waistline.) Resist the Devil, and he will flee from you. Mock him, and his mystique is taken away.

You seem to be taking a rather light approach to the devil. Scripture doesn't recommend that.

For example:

1Pe 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
1Pe 5:9 Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

Eph 6:11 Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

That, my friend, is part of the problem of Halloween. We've "mocked" the devil into cuteness. We've likened him to a cartoon character. We've reduced his reality to a characticture. Do you think he cares that we've succeeded in picturing him as not a dangerous adversary? He loves it. It makes his job much easier.

Christians have an amount of protection, but we are still to be wary, vigilent. Of course, it's open season on non-Christians. Halloween IS a high holy day for Satanists. Tell me:

2Co 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
2Co 6:15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
2Co 6:16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
2Co 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

Why do you have agreement with Satanists?

It doesn't focus their attention on demonic things. They just dress up for one night, for crying out loud. I am against REAL dabblings in the occult. Ouji Board, tarot cards etc...are not okay in my book. That is demonic. But dressing up on Halloween like a vampire or ghost? Give me a break. It is just kids having fun.

You frequent the religion board. Why are you yoked with Satanists, whom revere Halloween as one of their highest holy days?

2Co 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
2Co 6:15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
2Co 6:16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
