If Patrick Wayne feels better about his father's salvation by believing he converted on his deathbed, I don't care. Whatever gives the son peace.

But Wayne was a lifelong, active and sincere Presbyterian. I know people who worshiped with him.

The fact that Dumas admitted to making up the story of Wayne's conversion tells us that some people view a deathbed belief in Roman Catholicism to be so important that it justifies a lie to accomplish it.

Shame on them.

That's sorta the way I feel.

Reminiscent of the deathbed conversion of Constantine. :)

If Wayne was given the last rites at the request of his children for the peace of his children, so be it. He was a good and loving father.

But he was a life-long Presbyterian. As I said, I have family who knew him well. Sorry to shatter your illusions.

That doesn't make him a bad person, you know.

The claim is he was a Presbyterian when he died. It says nothing about his parent's religious affiliation. Besides, if they were Camisards in France, they may well have affiliated with other Huguenots in America at a Presbyterian congregation (as did most Huguenots in that part of America).

Several of my own Huguenot ancestors were part of Squire Boone's settlements in Southern Indiana ~ even have cousins with the surname Harrod, Boone, etc. although the folks in my direct male line lived in New York and Green River Island (during fur trading days)

Are you actually saying that Boone must have been a Catholic because he had "common sense" and was brave? This is all very odd Rosary. Not sure what you are trying to get across here.

That's a nice site ~ to be specific it's part of the English Origins argument for the Boone family.

Problem is there are a lot of Boone families appearing simultaneously in England and in America and in Germany, etc., and as I pointed out, also in the vicinity of Angiers France.

I do hope the Kentucky society that takes care of such matters has made sure to have the Kentucky flag at an appropriate shrine in all the countries that can, in fact, claim Daniel Boone.

You want to get into a real struggle, track down the Murphy family in America. We have two authentic superheros ~ Timothy Murphy, reputedly the finest soldier to have served in the American Revolution, and Audey Murphy, the most heavily decorated soldier in the history of America.

You'd best believe folks have tried to connect those two guys to their own lineage.

Unfortunately the Murphy family left many fewer records than the Boone family

Boone was a Presbyterian

I suspected as much. The Calvinist world view brings out a sense of confidence in folks.

I am brought to "a sense of confidence" when I remember Isaiah 12:2 and I pray this verse often:

"God indeed is my Savior;
I am confident and unafraid.
My strength and my courage is the Lord,
and He is my Savior."

Now that's confidence.

Yes, so true about Davy Crockett. Think I'll have to sing that for a while this morning.... Were those great shows or what?
