I would wager I'm a better witness to my friends by going out on Friday night, having fun and maybe one drink with them, than I would be if I refused all alcohol and claimed it was because I was a Christian.

I am here to tell you as a formerly unsaved person who saw so called Christians live just like the world, it destroyed their testimony in my eyes.

So was Jesus "worldly" when he drank wine, hung out with sinners, and was accused of being a "drunkard"?

Is God worldly for giving us wine "to make the heart glad"?

You have no right to adjudge anyone "worldly" for having a drink or two. To do so is to create your own rules, which have no authority and are of no value of fighting fleshly indulgence.

Now, I respect people who don't drink. I do so only rarely. But I refuse to allow anyone to prattle on about "destroying testimony" because we engage in behavior specifically authorized in Scripture.

And I'll tell you that I have geek friends who tell me I'm the first Christian who hasn't told them their hobbies were evil and therefore the first Christian they'd talk to or listen to. I have Christian friends who have become saved since I knew them who tell me that my witness - showing them it's possible to be a Christian and still like video games or RPGs or science fiction novels or anime or what have you - opened their minds to the possibility that there actually is something to Christianity.

So don't try those little one-size-fits-all statements. Just because it was true for you doesn't mean it is true for my friends.
