Interestingly, Kosta is Eastern Orthodox, so that little petty papal barb was off the mark. Furthermore, the Pope does not deify himself or state that he is the final interpreter but the Holy Spirit's arbiter in cases of indecision on dogmatic issues ex cathedra. Long-winded, yes, but highly exclusive -- so not quite the final interpreter of Scripture. The teachings have been set in the Councils of the Church. The Pope has rarely spoken ex-cathedra.
