The Council of Trent ABSOLUTELY DID NOT prevent anyone from owning or reading a Bible. All Trent fathers demanded was that the Bible produced be in accordance with textual norms established by long standing tradition and study of the Church, have notes, and be examined by the local ordinary before mass production. Thank you. It is really a very poor reflection on our Protestant friends that this calumny is so brazenly repeated. Freepers in particular should know better.

Excuse me. I should have said:
IF you were allow to own a Bible by PERMISSION of the Church then you could ONLY interpret anything you read in it as the Church told you.
How's that!
