IF you were allow to own a Bible by PERMISSION of the Church then you could ONLY interpret anything you read in it as the Church told you.

IF you were allow to own a Bible by PERMISSION of the Church then you could ONLY interpret anything you read in it as the Church told you We are only allowed to interpret anything you read in it as the Church told us, regardless of what Bibles we own and how we had obtained them, and that goes for you, me, Luther, and Osama bin Laden.

I was just catching up and read the link from the fourth session of the Council of Trent and couldn't help but notice "Contraveners shall be made known by their ordinaries, and be punished with the penalties by law established". In such a repressive environment the net effect would be to discourage Bible study.
