Coming Dec 8th. Feast of the "Immaculate Conception"

Posted on 12/05/2005 4:56:34 PM PST by Rosary

The Mother of Jesus is given a great rememberance in the Catholic Church. She is reverenced as the woman, who said,"Behold the handmaid of the Lord,be it done unto me, according to Thy word". With deep confidence, trust, and faith Mary accepted her destiny as asked of her by St. Gabriel, the Archangel, the messenger of God. Mary, was humble and never asked to be put on a honor list.Mary, was simple and never boasted of her title as Mother of the Son of God. Mary was chosen, amoung thousands of other women to be the Mother of Jesus. Her purity, love and fear of God,her prayers were always that God's will be done in her.Give glory to God for Mary, who whose Immaculate Conception is the reason Jesus came to all mankind. She was Jesus' Mother. She brought forth the God-man for the salvation of all mankind.

Thanks. It is partly a tribute to our Orthodox Brothers and partly a tribute to one of the greatest Church fathers.

Oh, I cannot forget about Bernadette (who is one of my personal heros for her loving consistancy and refusal to be budged) and her Lady. Childhood memories of watching Jennifer Jones and Vincent Price in the Song of Bernadette, and how impressed I was with Bernadette and how amazed I was at Vincent Price's character for his stubborn determination to hold onto his secular "enlightenment" even when it was patently being refuted by evidence in front of him.

Learning about Lourdes and Fatima were important milestones on my faith journey.

You would think that even if they didn't believe in honoring and praying to the saints, they would be respectful to someone whose life was so thoroughly wrapped up in Jesus' life, and who it is obvious he cared for. Respect for Mary is indicated, just because one respects and loves Jesus, and Mary is his Mama.

Never is Mary ever called or refered to as a Goddess..,,she is not..

Always, she points us to Jesus. She is the first person and the best follower of Jesus and an excellent example to us of how best to follow Him, "Do whatever He tells you."

Mary's "Be it done to me according to your will" echos in the Lord's Prayer "Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven," and in Jesus' prayer in the Garden, "Not my will but thine." Seems to me there is no other prayer more perfect than O God, let your will be done! Her "Do whatever he tells you to," is the perfect advice.

Yes, that really says it all. Perfect. These devotionals have been so inspiring, and I have gained new insights just from the sharing you and so many have done on this thread. It's been a real blessing to me.

St. Athanasius is my pastor's favorite saint. I think in his mind he is following in the great saint's footsteps, fighting against the modern foes of the truth.

A great role model. And a saint we owe a great debt to for his tenacity in the face of the Arian heresy.

I was being sarcastic. Sorry, if my writing didn't make that clear. But, as a question, what do you think I meant by her being chosen among billions upon billions of women to bring Salvation to us?
