Hubbard's fiction sucked. What Asimov would call type 1 science fiction stories, adventure stories with a thin veneer of (not very accurate) science.

Good thing. I think the Dianetics would have hooked me.

Yeah, very good thing. It can be quite seductive...

The first time I ever heard of this, a man came to my door and when I opened it he said very seriously, "Do you know how to know?" I thought he was an idiot and would never have considered getting involved in Scientology. Years later, my husband to be showed me tons of material they had sent him in an effort to recruit him, and then I really KNEW how to know not to get involved with them. He couldn't get rid of them, so I did it for him!
